I felt like starting a series of personal game recommendations for people that have that 'I wanna something but i don't know what..." feel.
Well, here's my Game of the day.
HEROES OF MIGHT AND MAGIC III
I'm starting this series with an 'oldie goldie' that is still one of my fav. games even today. It's an epic mix of magic and mythology, strategic elements and that good old feeling of pumping up an epic army to smash your enemies (read the last bit with Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice)
Even if you don't feel like strategy is your gig, you will be surprised by this gem that has kept people playing for 18 years. Yes, it's been released back in 1999, which makes it sound like the game will be a rigid old piece of garbage by now. Except that it isn't. It plays smoothly, the mechanics are timeless and if anyone wants to shit over the graphics, pixel art is popular today anyway. You can also pick up a remastered HD version with better looking sprites and all if you're that butthurt about it.
The sheer amount of different creatures (which you get to upgrade as well), the way to use them, different heroes, skills, items and the amount of strategic options alone is worth at least trying the game out. Funny thing is, new mods are still being released even after 18 years. Yes, it's that dear to people. Not to mention that if you ever run out of campaigns and official maps, there's about a trillion of custom maps and campaigns to download.
I'm telling you, this game is 10/10, game of the year, every year.
I'M SOLD, WHERE DO I GET IT
You can grab your copy at GOG (they often do sales on it as well) here, together with all the expansions: https://www.gog.com/game/heroes_of_might_and_magic_3_complete_edition
If you're that bothered by the graphics, Steam has a HD version for you, but beware it does not hold the expansions (thus the mixed reviews), it's just the core game with makeup on it: http://store.steampowered.com/app/297000/
That's it for today! I hope you dig it and let me know what's your favorite faction in the comments below.
Happy gaming.
Love HOMM!
I played mainly as Inferno or Necropolis.

Necropolis has such a nasty way of stacking hordes of skeletons on bigger maps, that everyone loved to play them :) thanks for the comment and read.
