Game Review no.1 - Oriental Empires

in games •  7 years ago  (edited)

This game promised BIG: gorgeous graphics, expansive terrain, novel combat system, complex whilst accessible strategic turn-based gameplay etc.

However, after the initial deliberations regarding where to settle first and figuring out how to obtain scarce available resources, it became apparent that quite a bit of waiting without action is required. In of itself, this is hardly a show stopper. The problem is that, whilst you seek to maintain interest, there simply does not appear to be any connectivity between the selection of technologies, establishment of settlements, economic measures and ruling politics.

Therefore, one is left hoping that war strategy will save the day and that the game will be “combat-driven”. Sadly, when the roaming bandits do appear and you march to meet them in defense of your outlying villages, what ensues is comedic at best. A sort of ‘tag: you’re it’ running battle with absurd animations takes place. Benny Hill style chases up and down the surrounding hills and countryside with bandits evading any of the simplistic tactical maneuver options.

No dice: do not buy. 3 hours played. Rated 3/10.
