Activision Call of Duty Sued by Maker Humvee

in games •  7 years ago

AM General, the makers of the military Humvee vehicles, draws Activision to court for the sake of Call of Duty. In many Call of Duty games Humvee vehicles are used, but that would happen without the permission of AM General. According to AM General, the success of Call of Duty is at the expense of their own company and fans who are misled to think that AM General grants a license or is onehow involved in making the games. One also refers to Humvee's presence in the promotion and merchandise around Call of Duty. In other words, AM General believes that it is part of the success and that it has to be rewarded for this.

AM General has tried for over a year to reach an agreement with Activision, but that has not been successful, and so Activsion is now sued. AM General wants a solid compensation, but if he will get it is of course the question. In the past, similar things have not often been successful. It could be a lot of money, knowing that the Call of Duty franchise had already realized a turnover of over 15 billion dollars in all those years. At Activsion, they do not comment on the current issues.

AM General has been making Humvee vehicles for the US Army for more than 30 years. It also has a variant for ordinary citizens, the hummer. The company is owned by MacAndrews & Forbes Inc. and Renco Group Inc., holdings for billionaires Ronald Perelman and Ira Rennert.
