Game Review Saturdays - An Honest Review of The Sims 3

This one might be a bit on the old side, but it's still a game that many people love and play even still - myself included!

So of course, the idea of any Sims game is that you can make a house and some people (and pets, if you have the proper expansion) and let them live their lives. Get married, have kids, work a job, the whole nine yards on that end. Seems boring, I know, but until you've played it for yourself it's hard to explain why it's not so.

There's things like people catching fire if they stay outside when it's too hot. If you don't watch your kids they can drown in the pool. Houses catch fire from fireplaces or just someone being really bad at cooking. And that's just the tip of the iceburg, really.

The characters are highly customizeable, too. There's plenty of options for all details, including weight! And if you have the expansion for it you can even be things like a vampire, werewolf, or fairy.

The expansions really are the only downside, in my opinion. Both on Steam and on Origin (EA's website for buying games) the game itself is around $20, and it's an extra $20 a piece for each of the 19 expansions making buying the 'full' game a $400 investment and it does not seem as if they've released any sort of single-buy for all the expansions at once with a discount of any kind.

I do have all the expansions, but only because a friend of mine had put in the money for them, logged me in to her Origin account on my computer, and let me download everything. I also have some mods which are pretty nice, and if you hit up Google the game has built-in cheats that can let you do quite a bit as well. So it's not like it's a loss if you can't get the expansions, a lot of mods will easily make up for that and more.

All in all, the game has a high replay factor and is a lot of fun if you like these sorts of games. Some people set up, step back and let the Sims run their own lives, some choose to have more of a helping hand in it, and still others just simply choose to make their lives as miserable as possible. Whatever you choose there's something for everyone, and I honestly just simply love Sims 3 100% and still play it for fun even now.

You can buy the game, and all its expansions, through Steam if you want, or find it on Origin if you've got that.
