Five New Upcoming Commodore 64 Games

in games •  6 years ago

The Commodore 64 is the gaming computer that just won’t die. It was recently resurrected with the C64 Mini and other than that, fans simply keep making new games for it. I am fine with that though. I grew up with the C64 being one of my earliest computer experiences, one that has stuck with me for over three decades now. Considering how much I enjoy the Commodore 64 it was easy to decide what platform to do a write up like this for today. Here are five new and upcoming games for your Commodore 64. Just a heads up, I did not include Sam’s Journey here because it is so well covered already and I figured why not give that spot to a new title.

First up is the latest commercial release, Farming Simulator. I recently covered this one already but that does not mean it cannot be on this list as well. What is unique about Farming Simulator is that it is a sponsored demake release by Giants Software. They commissioned a team to create this game based on their latest sim release - Farming Simulator 19. Grabbing a copy of Farming Simulator 19 - PC Collector’s Edition will give you your first chance to play this one via a disk image. Giants Software plan on releasing the Commodore 64 version later as a stand alone commercial release as well.

According to our friends over at Indie Retro News, the Commodore 64 will also be getting a new game called “Raging Orlando”, a single screen action platform title set in a mix of a medieval and horror world. I say that because in the trailer we see a witch flying on a broom in the background as the main character is fighting floating skulls, demons, and archers in the foreground. Quite a mix and eye catching to say the least. Check out the official website here.

Age of Heroes is a title I covered on RETRETRO Magazine back in September and is definitely worthy of being on this list. Fans of fantasy epics such as Conan the Barbarian franchise will be right at home with this game. Age of Heroes is a 2D side scrolling action game that has jumps, traps, and plenty of enemies to kill as you journey across the land.

Aviator Arcade II is an overhead scrolling shooter title, similar to Twin Cobra on the Sega Genesis. I believe this was created using the Shoot Em Up Construction Kit (SUECK) by The New Dimension. Nothing wrong with that as there are more than a few releases using this engine and they are fantastic. <a href="https://rgcddev.itch.io/aviator-arcade-ii"Aviator Arcade II even has a demo available for those interested in blasting the enemy using a helicopter (a war machine not used nearly enough in scrolling shooters).

Finally, we have a point and click adventure title that pushes the graphical power of the Commodore 64 via shading and forced perspective. This latest version, Caren - Thank You Edition 2018 is a special edition that is the largest, and according to Indie Retro News most polished, version of the game to be released. Fans of Sierra On-Line or LucasArts adventures will be right at home with Caren - Thank You Edition 2018. Grab your copy from CSDB.DK right now.

Thank you for a great set of reviews for a great gaming platform.

[regret]Had I known there would be a revival, I would have kept my machine from back in the day![/regret]

Almost all of these will have a disk image available at some point which can be played on emulators so no original hardware required.

Only Farming Simulator is definitely a commercial release out of this batch. Caren and Aviator Arcade have downloads already available.
