GameMaker Studio 2 Nintendo Switch Bound

Game development is tough. Just ask anyone that is a game developer. As technology matured and software followed suit, more and more engines and programs started becoming mainstream that allowed creation of games. GameMaker Studio is one of those pieces of software that facilitated the development of new games. Unity is another. I am not knocking GameMaker Studio or Unity, or anyone that uses them. If you can make a rocking game, then I don’t care how you did it. As if the Nintendo Switch needed more games coming that deluge will continue to grow now that GameMaker Studio 2 is coming to Nintendo’s latest console, er hand held, er console.

Before you get too excited, you probably should know that GameMaker Studio 2 will not offer the option to export to Nintendo Switch until around mid-2018. I know, it seems like a million years away before you can fiddle with Nintendo’s latest offering to gamers, but it will be worth it, I am sure. Spend the time waiting honing your game or getting started, whichever the case may be.

Some of the games that TouchArcade thinks we may end up seeing on the Nintendo Switch thanks to GameMaker Studio 2 compatibility are rather interesting ones. Undertale, Crashlands, Hyper Light Drifter, Gunpoint and maybe Samurai Gunn just to name a few games created using GameMaker Studio 2 that could now easily see Nintendo Switch ports released.

I am all for new games that are fun and interesting. What bothers me is when game developers use software such as GameMaker Studio 2 to simply churn out crap because it is easy, and they know they will at least make a few bucks. Just look at the trash on Windows Store and Google Play for proof of this mentality running wild.

Seems really cool. I love game maker studio and am currently developing a game. I would love to be able to mess around with it on my Nintendo switch. Seems fun.

Please keep us posted on the progress of your game. I own a couple of gaming websites and could easily be persuaded into writing up articles following the development.
