SCUMMVM Nintendo Switch Edition Released

in games •  7 years ago

SCUMMVM is a point and click game interpreter that gained popularity by allowing fans the ability to play classic games on modern hardware. Originally released on computers, later revisions brought SCUMMVM to consoles.

Now, SCUMMVM is available for the Nintendo Switch console. Point and click adventure fans have already left, haven’t they?

If you are a fan of titles like Secret of Monkey Island, the Space Quest series, or countless others then you are already familiar with the genre.

Adventure games are simply slower paced adventures that often require thought and interpretation of clues to advance. This is a direct opposite of other classics such as Super Mario Bros or Sonic the Hedgehog which are action based requiring little thinking – run and jump, kill and collect.

Things are not perfect with the Nintendo Switch version of SCUMMVM though. You will need a Switch running 3.0 firmware and must use hb launcher. Games allegedly run at a decent frame rate and at 2X full screen resolution. There are no sound fx in SCUMM games as of this writing either.

Eventually the Nintendo Switch version of SCUMMVM will feature MP3 decoding for audio and other little bugs will be fixed.

Very cool! Hope to see some improvements in the future :) Excited to play Sam & Max and King's Quest on the go!!

I am not sure just how far you will get in either of those classics at this time but the dev is VERY active in the forums there.

This is a great news for me even though I don't have SWITCH... It always amazes me what Homebrew people do.

The past few days I tried making a GB game (for this jam) and I got stuck not being able to even create a moving sprite (though I learned a lot and met great people so I'm really happy I tried.) wait... what was we talking about again?
