Will You Watch the Halo Television Show?

Stephen Spielberg is working on a television show based on Microsoft’s Halo for Showtime. The question is, will fans of the game watch the television show? Considering it is going to be on Showtime it is probably not going to be constrained by the same limits as if it was debuting on network television, so it has that going for it. Being on a premium cable channel will allow the show to explore story lines and portray them in ways that network television would axe on the drawing board. But, will you watch?

"[It's] still in very active development," Nevins told TV Guide earlier this week. He remained tight-lipped on exactly what that meant, but according to TV Guide, Nevins has seen scripts for the series, to be made in collaboration with Halo creators 343 Studios. Gary Levine, Showtime's President of Programming, said that the series is "absolutely" still in development. "It's still live action," said Levine, "and it will definitely satisfy the fans of Halo and I think also satisfy the drama audiences of Showtime."

Don’t get too excited at this news. Apparently, this television series has been in the development stages for about five years. Half a freaking decade. That is a long time for a television show. Longer than most television shows get before they are canceled.

Microsoft are at least giving this the “Nintendo treatment” as stated here, “…"want to ensure we’re doing this the right way together with a team of creative partners (Steven Spielberg and Showtime) that can help us build the best Halo series that fans expect and deserve. We have no further details to share at this time.”

There is still no cast attached to the show, at least publicly, and well no one other than Spielberg at this point. This can be good, or it could be bad. Only time will tell.

This is interesting, it would be much better if the original Bungie team was involved instead of 343. The composer Martin O'Donnell for the original trilogy would deffinantly make a great impact of the adoption of the show. Spielberg is a household name that will draw a crowd along with the popularity of the franchise it could be a big hit.

I think they have the show in good hands with Spielberg, I am interested in seeing what he does with it. I don't currently have Showtime but Halo is not a show that will make me part with an additional $10 a month either - I will catch the show when it inevitably ends up on Netflix.

True, most shows these days end up on Netflix or just streamed for free.

I support many shows I remember wanting to watch when they were coming out via Netflix. Sure it doesn't really help the original show much, especially those that are canceled already, but I like to to think I gave some kind of support back.

I just hope it doesn't get cancelled!!!!!!!!!!!
