Please let me talk about Cersei Lannister. Sounds very familiar, right?
Who among you haven't watched or at least heard about Game of Thrones TV series? I bet not every one of us is a fan of it but most of us (count me in) got hook up with the story itself. The story for me is about people's strong desire for POWER — you would be surprise at how much people can do, or sacrifice, for their own ambition.
We hate most of GOT's greedy characters but admit it or not, we learn a lot from them. The story was set during the medieval time but the lessons implied, I think, still true in today's modern times. To prove my argument, I listed some of my favorites lines quoted from GOT characters.
Oh, before I forgot , thank you George R.R. Martin — GOT creator.
"The more people you love, the weaker you are." — Cersei Lannister, Season 2, Episode 7.
Cersei explains further, "...you'll do things for them that you know you shouldn't do. You'll act fool to make them happy, to keep them safe..."
In a sense, what will make you weaker are the soft spots in your heart for the people you love. You perfectly know you shouldn't do certain things but because you really love the person... you deliberately ignore the rules. Isn't Cersei right?
Another line worth quoting is:
"When you play the game if thrones, you win or you die. There is no middleground." — Cersei Lannister, Season 1, Episode 7
It's like the victorious winner takes everything. And the unlucky loser subjugates all, sometimes including his own life. Same as when you gamble, you either win or lose. That's why I personally hate battles or competitions. Most of the time, the price you paid to win or the sacrifice you've done to succeed is more than enough — to the point the triumph itself is not enough compensation compare to the things you have given up.
Well, that would be all for now.
Let's explore and dissect the minds of other GOT characters in my next blog.
I love Cersei's very strong character. It's hard to guess her weak-point... specially now that her children are gone... well, another one is on the way :)
