ahmadmanga's Gaming's Daily #13: Collecting Gaming Posts - How I Choose Which Posts To Read/Put in My Daily?

"Steemit Gamers: Do we only care about Posting? I was like that too, but I forced myself to read posts of others. A blog is nothing without its readers.

Salam (Peace)

While I was thinking of what to write here, I read one comment by @felipejoys about why only few people entered his game giveaway:

I think the real problem is, most steemian gamers are mostly only interested in posting content, not checking out other people's blogs. They usually don't connect with anyone. And I think this happens just because they don't understand the importance of networking.

Yeah... Steemit is usually seen by users as "write something and hope some whale sees it and upvote." Many of us just post and don't read other posts. Since comments are upvotable too some users just spam comments all the time, making the bloggers not sure who read their post and who didn't.

I think it's justified, it takes a lot of work to find a good post that deserves reading. Trending & Hot pages are full of low quality posts.

I didn't read many steemit posts before I started writing my Daily posts, I started writing them as a way to solve this problem. My Gaming Daily posts are usually consist of:

  1. Random #gaming topic. mostly a game I played recently, or some news about a game I'm excited about. They are usually less detailed than my Reviews or #thinkingwhilegaming posts.
  2. A Collection of posts published on #gaming tag I read that day, usually five posts. I talk about 2-3 of them in detail.
  3. [Optional] Three of my older posts that I think related to one of the two points above.

Forcing myself to 'Read'

One of the reasons I made my Gaming Daily posts this way is to find a reason to read other people's posts. Soon I learned that with all the bad posts it isn't easy to find a good one to read, I usually put everything I 'read' in my daily so I miss a lot of good posts. But here's what I usually do:

  • I open #gaming tag. then go to the new section.
  • Since I find all gaming posts, I look for titles I'm interested in or images from games I like.
  • Without interesting title + attractive first image I probably won't find you.

After I open the post:

  • I give it around 10 seconds to find a (head)line or picture that interests me in it.
  • I read the parts around it and if I liked it I read the rest of the post. (See fast reading below.)
  • If the previous point didn't happen I'll probably go to the next post in my queue.

So, while the posts I choose might not be the best, might not even good. They all have something interesting in them. I don't look at usernames a lot, but if I find myself reading the same users posts more than once and liked them each time: Congrats, you got a new follower.

Tips for Fast Reading

Maybe you don't read posts because they are too long and you don't have time. If they was stories then I agree with you, but most gaming posts can be understood even if you didn't read the whole thing.

When I read posts, I focus on the points I think important.

  • The headlines: some posts are so well-written that you only read them and understand the whole thing.
  • The first part of each paragraph: in most cases you know what to expect from the next 4 lines with just three words. Saves time.
  • Keywords: A post about FFXV and you only want to see if the blogger put the release date? look for the word "release", or better: Look only for numbers. (I use Ctrl + F sometimes).

As a writer it doesn't bother me if someone only reads some parts of my post if they enjoyed or got something useful from them. But if you want to give me a spam comment be professional about it.

What do you think?

Around The #Gaming Tag

Below are some posts from the last 24 hours. They are posts I read from my feed and new section of #gaming.

  • Terminus Review and Gameplay - PALADINS: I always wanted to put one of @otemzi reviews in my daily. He frequesnt the same Discord groups I do~ Anyway in this post he talks about one of the characters in the game Paladins. I like how he compares him to HULK.

@rickraven2000's "What are the benefits of gaming?"
@steemit-travel's "|Review Game| Naruto X Boruto: Ninja Voltage."
@adexola's "STREET FIGHTER 3: THIRD STRIKE."
"Mod Review. (Skyrim)" Had a conversation with @amok-wilde in comments.

~ Hope you liked the post ~

I keep calling it daily, but I don't write them everyday. This post should've been yesterday's.

Trending & Hot pages are full of low quality posts.
I don't want to sound like I write better post than others, because I know I'm not that good, but I agree with this.

I always browse for other authors' posts after I'm done making mine, and yes, I find myself come across the... low quality posts, more than the high quality ones. But when I do find the good ones, I really enjoyed reading them and mention them in my Lutece's posts of the week.

I didn't want to sound like someone who writes good/better posts either, maybe the Trending & Hot pages posts are just not for me (Videos without text and Crypto Kitties posts)... Even the posts I include in my daily might not be better than them, they just have something interesting to me. But I try to have some quality standard in which I choose here.

But when I do find the good ones, I really enjoyed reading them and mention them in my Lutece's posts of the week.

Yup, I really enjoy the ones you mention.

I'll admit I started following you because you read and commented on my first gaming posts. :) It gave me encouragement to do my own take on reviewing games for specific purposes, like what games are just nice to relax with.
I agree though, that there's heavy pressure to keep pumping out the content, curate, try to lure whales while building your brand and following. I'll just say this as someone who worked in publishing, that it's a pain in the butt, takes a lot of work, and it's best to write the stuff you actually care about, so it seems less like work. :)

I disagree about the "you have to keep pumping out content" part. Quality is too important to pass on steemit. When you write a fine post, you get fine, loyal followers! You just have to stay in touch with them. It is a social platform instead of a post-more-win-more ad-based site, after all.

Thanks for the mention I really do appreciate it, you will be suprise on how much beautiful post is been published daily via the new feed, but then with 10-20 post coming every 5mins it becomes hard to keep track, unless one decide to focus on a particular tag just like you.

And joining communities is surely a good way to get your work notice. To all consistent newbies reading this post, it gets better dont give up amd remember to keep publishing those amazing post and do join communitiea where to get to meet amazing steemians like @ahmadmanga

Didn't you catch my AoE post from the trending page? Haha, well it's good for something. P:

Maybe, I forgot... haha~
I usually don't even open it, and go to gaming tag by this (bookmarked) link: https://steemit.com/created/gaming

You know, I kind of wish your posts were a little shorter. Sometimes I have to hit "page down' 4 times until I get to something that interests me. There is always something, but because of those huge pictures and font, it takes a while to get to it.

Thanks for the feedback, that's sad because I always have too much to say. But I'll try to shorten them.

Oh, by the way... My next daily will be very different so I wish you give me feedback on it when I post it.

There is always something, but because of those huge pictures and font...

Weird as I try to make my pictures small, and I can't do anything about the font.

Well maybe something's up in my browser, my bad.
Maybe you could split your article in 2 parts? You do call it a "daily', it would end up really being one. :)

Thanks... I was writing an article when I spoke to you last time. Thanks to your feedback I split it in two and I like the result:

It's great because I can always link to the announcement and focus only on posts I choose when writing every daily. Hope to know what do you think and compare this to my daily previous gaming posts.

And I wish we could include our own shortcuts below "my blog" and "my wallet". So much useless blank space. "New gaming posts" link? What a dream.

I think a browser add on can be made for that... If only we knew a developer.
