One of the game I loved playing on the 3DS is Etrian Odyssey Untold. The first person dungeon crawler with interesting mapping system that utilizes the DS/3DS touch screen. Most of the games in the series have no story but they make that up by amazing gameplay.
Today I read a siliconera article about the latest game in the series Etrian Odyssey Nexus. The game has everything that made the previous games good. All the classes, and powerful enemies are there. They said that the game feels like a "fond farewell to an era."
That made me think, the series is awesome (and hard,) but with the life-span of the 3DS is nearing its end. How will the series go on after this?
I enjoyed reading the comments of that post. Some people said that there will be a new version of Etrian Odyssey on Nintendo Switch after this. Some thought of how the series system can be changed for the switch, like splitting the screen or make the game depends on auto-mapping only.
Some commentors said that Nexus might be the latest entry in the series, and whatever ATLUS comes up with for the series, I think I'll be find with it.
ATLUS is a kind in making these types of RPGs and I've played great games from the company like Persona series and Devil Survivor. And I'll be excited to whatever changes happen or whatever succeeds Etrian Odyssey series!
