Shiny Chikorita and Grimer!

At the start of the event after I caught about two Chikorita two of my eggs hatched. While those eggs were hatching a friend was looking at my eggs too after clicking on a Chikorita. Then we looked at her phone and we noticed she already got a Shiny Chikorita! That was fast! I got a Farfetch'd and Diglett from my eggs. For me it took a long time to encounter the first Shiny, whereas this friend already found two.

After about 50 minutes to an hour we were in a park area again where 6 Chikorita had spawned again. By now most people I was walking around with had encountered at least one Shiny already. Then it happened! I clicked one of the Chikorita and there it was, my first Shiny Chikorita!

Just a few minutes later, while catching more of those Chikorita in that playground with the park area I already got a 2nd Shiny Chikorita too! It was funny to see how they only have a difference of 1 CP too! That was definitely funny. At first I thought I caught one of the same CP until I looked in my Pokémon list after catching the 2nd one.

A bit later we decided to go to the market place as we hadn't been there yet. When we got there we had like 7 Chikorita there around the Gym and the Pokéstop and by the time we caught all of them like 4 more spawned. So we definitely went there at a good time it seems! Then we headed to the local park where three people decided to do the Magneton Raid. As it's an EX Raid Gym. I didn't bother to join as I preferred to just catch the Chikorita and I'll use my Raid Pass for a higher difficulty Raid. While were there I looked at the nearby list and had this beautiful screenshot with 7 Chikorita and a Bulbasaur there too.

The Bulbasaur was at the market place, so it must've spawned shortly after we left!

When it was about 13:40 I decided to start evolving some of my Chikorita as there were only 20 minutes left of the event. And we have to evolve them into Meganium before the Community Day is over, otherwise it won't know the exclusive move Frenzy Plant. Which happened to me with Bulbasaur.

Meganium Pokédex entry as Shiny.jpg

As I did not have Meganium in my Pokédex I wanted to evolve one of my Chikorita first so that the Shiny evolution would give me the next Pokédex registration. Because I wasn't playing the first months when gen 2 came out I missed out on a lof of starter spawns and never really got a lot of Chikorita candy. I did have Typhlosion already from Field Research rewards and Feraligatr from Raids sometime earlier this year.

Close to the end of August when I was walking around with a friend after a Raid we encountered a Chikorita. We caught it and it turned out to be a 98% IV. I almost had enough candy to evolve it at the time, but decided to wait. Which was good as sometime in September they announced the Chikorita Community Day. So after evolving my first Shiny Chikorita to a Meganium it was time to evolve this 98% IV as well so that it would have Frenzy Plant.

Before the event I had caught 15 Chikorita and seen 17. Seems like none of those 15 I caught were female as it wasn't in the Pokédex yet. After the event this changed to 170 caught and 176 seen. So I caught 155 Chikorita during this event, that's really nice! Seems like it might have been spawning more than some other Pokémon during their Community Day. With the difference between caught and seen now 6, it means that 4 Chikorita ran away today. Luckily none of the Shinies ran away!

Shinies after event.jpg

Speaking of Shinies. These are all the Shiny Chikorita I caught during the event. A total of 8 just like my Charmander during the Charmander Community Day. Which is my record for most Shinies during a Community Day. I still don't have a Shiny Bulbasaur so I may try to look for someone who wants to trade a Bulbasaur for one of my Chikorita. I evolved a male and a female Chikorita into Meganium. After I did that, and really close to the end of the event, I encountered two more Shiny Chikorita. One of which was 71% IV and since some of my Shinies during other Community Days had their highest being 71% I decided to evolve that one too.

Now as for this Grimer, that was quite the surprise to me. After the Community Day ended I was walking around with one friend for another 30-40 minutes. When I we stopped at one last place before I would head home I encountered this Grimer!

Shiny Grimer after event.jpg

At first when I clicked on it I was like "An Alolan Grimer? I'm pretty sure it was a Kantonian Grimer sitting here! But wait surely this isn't an Alolan Grimer!" and then I saw the stars sparkle around it and realised I just encountered a Shiny Grimer! My reaction was basically like the Grimer pose on the right, so it seemed fitting to include that in the screenshot! Indeed this couldn't have been an Alolan Grimer, as their tongue is a brighter and lighter blue and they have yellow around their mouth. I said to that friend that I just got a green Grimer and he didn't Bayleef me that I caught a Shiny Grimer until I showed it in the Pokémon list with the stars next to it. This was because he didn't know Grimer can be Shiny since recently. So this is an even better way to end this Community Day then!

How has your Community Day been? Did you catch a good Chikorita? Managed to get one or more Shinies too?
