Palkia has appeared in Raid Battles, week recap

I haven't played as much Pokémon GO this week as usual and did not get to posting anything either. A few days ago Groudon and Kyogre left Raid Battles when the Hoenn Celebration event ended. After they moved away, the Spatial Pokémon Palkia entered Raid Battles. It's a Water- and Dragon-type Legendary from Sinnoh. I suppose that it's counterpart, Dialga, will likely enter Raid Battles then once Palkia leaves on February 28.

New Raid Bosses always show up at 10pm my time, which is when the Raids already stop appearing for the day, so I couldn't do one then yet. The next day I was able to attend my first Palkia Raid. For the fights I made a party with my 98% IV Rayquaza, two 93% IV Dragonite, 96% IV Gardevoir with Dazzling Gleam, 71% IV Shiny Dragonite and my 100% IV Weavile. Though I might swap out Weavile for another good Fairy-type attacker.

My team takes quite some beatings during the Raid, even if we're with a quite big group. As Dragon is super effective against itself, so with Palkia being a Water- and Dragon-type it also sometimes knows Dragon-type moves which can wreck my Rayquaza and Dragonite rather fast. Though they can also deal a lot of damage to Palkia so it's worth it.

Palkia seems to be sitting quite far away, so I had to look for a proper way to throw my Premier Ball at it and see when during its attack animation would be a good idea to release the curve throw. Didn't take me long to find out how I could consistently land Great Curved throws on it. With the circle being rather small I prefer throwing consistent Great throws over inconsistent Excellent throws.

When I attempted my second Palkia Raid we were with only a small group. There was someone else who would be coming with two, but it took a while for the other 4 of us to add ourselves to the list. So that person most likely did not pay attention anymore, thinking nobody would do the Raid. Instead of with 6 we were then with only 4, with the lowest level Trainer being level 30. We waited for a while to see if the other person would still show up or if someone else would be interested too. That didn't happen so we decided to try it with the four of us. Our teams took a lot of beatings and we were about 5-10 seconds shy of being able to beat it. Which was rather unfortunate. Though we still had our free Raid Pass of the day before so it was worth the try. If our teams are a bit stronger we might be able to beat it with 4, but for now it seems best to try in bigger groups.

Later during the week I was able to attend another Palkia Raid and catch my second one. From the looks of it I had a really high IV one with it being 2274 CP. I know a 2280 CP is a 100% IV so I was sure mine would be 96 or 98%, I checked its IV with a calculator and it's a 98% one!

Yesterday in the evening I was walking around a bit to get my daily Pokémon GO activity in. There were suddenly a lot of Raids nearby. One of them wasn't showing up and just suddenly appeared with like 20 minutes left to hatch instead of an hour. I saw in the Raids group that someone wanted to do the level 5 Raid at 18:30 so I replied that I wanted to join too. A few other people replied later on too and we were with like 13 eventually. When I saw the CP drop after the fight I saw it display 2280 in the screen before the victory appeared. I was like "Did I see this correct?!" and then I went through the rewards into the encounter. Indeed I had seen it correct, 2280 CP. A 100% IV Palkia!

That's my first ever 100% IV encounter for a Legendary Raid Boss! I don't catch all the Legendaries, especially in the past, but even from those that ran away I had no 100% IV encounter yet. As you can see from my Legendary Raids battle I have done 373 of them right now. So my 373th Legendary Raid encounter is my 1st one of 100% IV. For a 1/216 chance for it to be 100% IV I'm still at a fairly okay rate. I'm glad that I finally encountered a 100% Legendary now and was able to catch it. It was such a great feeling when I caught it! :D
