Power-Packed Ultra Bonus Event!

The Global Research Challenge Ultra Bonus

Today the rewards from the last stop of Pokémon GO's Summer Tour in Yokosuka, Japan ended. The Ultra Bonus that we unlocked from the Global Research Challenge was also announced today as promised!

I personally thought they might reveal some information about gen 4 and release some of the gen 4 Pokémon that evolve from previous gen Pokémon already. That doesn't seem to be the case at all though!

The Ultra Bonus unlocks a Power-Packed Event heavily featuring Kanto Pokémon, so focusing on gen 1.

Starting September 13 through September 30 Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region will be appearing much more frequently in the wild. This is great to be able to find some of the Kanto Pokémon that don't spawn as often. I hope I can build up more candy for the gen 1 Pokémon that get an evolution in gen 4. Potentially try to find better ones than I already have. Looking at you Rhyhorn and Rhydon!

The Legendary Bird trio will once again return to Raid Battles. Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres will be available during Raid Battles from September 13 through September 20. Following the Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres Days, all three of them can still be encountered Shiny. Maybe I'll be able to get Shiny Articuno and Moltres during that week then!

When the Legendary Bird Trio flies off and disappears in the horizon the powerful Mewtwo will take their place in Raid Battles!! For people who haven't had a chance to get invited to an EX-Raid this is amazing news as they'll finally be able to get Mewtwo. It doesn't personally affect me as I have been invited to many EX-Raids already and I've been able to attend 15 of them, with a 100% catch rate for Mewtwo. I'm glad the people who haven't been able to catch it yet now have a better chance to fight and catch it!

Seeing Mewtwo show up in these Raid Battles does make me wonder, will Mewtwo soon depart from EX-Raids? He's been an EX-Raid boss since September/October 2017 and was the sole boss for these. There's no Legendary eligible from gen 2 though to take its place in an EX-Raid which made me think that's why he's been in there for so long. The next potential candidate for an EX-Raid boss is Deoxys. However Deoxys has 4 forms, so I'm curious how they'll handle these if Deoxys becomes the new EX-Raid boss at some point.

We all know the regional Pokémon. They can be extremely hard to obtain. With the trading feature now easier, but at an expensive Stardust price, if you meet people who've been able to travel across the world and catch them. Kanto has 4 of these regional Pokémon. I can catch Mr. Mime here in Europe and caught a few Farfetch'd when they spawned worldwide thanks to an event. Kangaskhan and Tauros are still not registered in my Pokédex.

All 4 of these Kanto regionals will now become available from 7 km Eggs for the duration of this event. So once the event starts it's time to open those Gifts and start hatching Eggs from them to try and get your hands on those regionals that you're still missing!
