Gloomhaven - Cursed by RNG!

Had our third session of Gloomhaven today and it was a bit frustrating. We played the same scenario twice today, getting demolished our first go through and then breezing through on our second attempt. Nothing changed between attempts, we just had better luck on the second round. I really went home today feeling like nothing I did contributed to whether we won or loss, I was simply at the will of luck. I had numerous occasions where the only outcome that would have punished me happened. The game is fun when you plan out your actions and things come together, sometimes things happen in ways you didn't anticipate and you have to scramble to salvage a turn (which is also fun). But when you repeatedly have your plans come together and fail because of bad luck just isn't all that fun.

I'm hoping next week goes a bit better because this week was just bizarre. It almost felt like we were just watching the game play itself. When we lose I want it to be because we made errors as opposed to just flipping the wrong cards.

Anyways enough with my rant. I switched to a new class this week, I wanted to just try out something new. It was quite a bit different than my first class and mainly focused on augmenting it's melee attacks and doing status effects. I think it would be quite strong after leveling up a few times but at level 1 I was very squishy and the damage output didn't always outweigh the risk I had to put myself in. I think I enjoyed my original class a bit more.
