(Disclaimer: This review will only cover my experience with the game, yours will surely be different.)
A spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment, Torment: Tides of Numenéra puts you in the role of a Castoff, a body left over by "The Changing God". He's mastered immortality by transferring his mind from body to body, the only downside of this being that a new consciousness is born within his absence; not necessarily that of a god, but not necessarily that of a human either. You are one of these Castoff's, and you are one of many.
The game takes place in a world that has seen a multitude of civilizations rise and fall, each leaving behind their own unique remnants. As you explore you discover these leftover oddities, artifacts, and cyphers, and use them on your journey to seek the Changing God.
The gameplay mainly consists of exploring in this isometric view, and interacting with other characters and the environment. Your choices will all require a skill check against your effort spent with one of three Stats (MIght, Speed, and Intellect); If you're trying to persuade a character, you'll spend points from your Intellect Stat Pool as Effort, increasing the chance of success. So if you have 12 Intellect, and it takes you 3 Intellect points to do what you're trying to do, you'll have 9 intellect after. It's not a bad system once you get the hang of it. All Stat Pools refill with sleep.
Combat is turn based, and while it isn't the game's strongest point, it isn't necessarily terrible either. You'll be playing for the plot anyways, trust me. The environment also plays an interesting role in combat, allowing you to overcome situation where you may have considered yourself a goner.
If you enjoyed Planescape: Torment, you'll certainly enjoy Numenéra, and vice versa; if you decide to try out Numenéra but haven't played Torment yet, an Enhanced Edition was recently released! While a little pricey at $44.99, Torment: Tides of Numenéra is certainly worth the time and money of any RPG fan.
all I heard is praise of this game :)
but I'm too lazy to put in the amount of time needed to play this game - too many games to try out man!
A few more information about other mechanics, maybe a bit about whether the game runs well and whether you've seen any bugs etc. would be pretty nice for a review though :)
But nice post anyways ;)
