Compared to Sony, Microsoft is a bit lagging behind in making "hit" games.
For 2018 Sony is expected to release games like;
- The Last of Us Part 2,
- God of War,
- Spider-Man,
- Dreams,
while Microsoft is working on;
- Crackdown 3,
- State of Decay 2,
- Sea of Thieves.
These games may look like a strong competition at first, but still, Microsoft's "hit" games are not as "numerous" as its rivals, and the company especially needs to do something in the console games segment to be able to be a relevant competition for Sony and Nintendo. According to a new report from Polygon, Microsoft's solution will be making major acquisitions.
After interviewing four game industry analysts, Polygon claims that Microsoft is expected to make big acquisitions this year. According to "reliable sources close to Microsoft", the company is actively considering acquiring Electronic Arts. There are also other rumors that even claim Microsoft is planning to acquire Valve and PUBG Corp.
Looking at the recent agreement between PUBG Corp. and Microsoft, it would not be a surprise for Microsoft to further tighten its grip on PUBG to make it more dependent on XBOX and PC. Buying EA should be considered as a much bolder move. Such a purchase would seriously strengthen Microsoft's game development arm.
Microsoft has the means to make that acquisition and they seem to make sense on the paper, but there is nothing more than gossips at the moment.
