I came kicking and screaming into the game of Minecraft. Some friends of mine had discovered it and they were all wildly addicted to the game.
Up till then, the main game I was interested in and played was The Sims. And I didn’t have much interest in branching out.
One of the ladies was so sure I’d love Minecraft that she bought me my first copy. (I later bought a second copy for my husband.) I felt obligated to try the game at that point. Little did I know how addicted I’d become to it…
I have put countless hours into this game. It’s not like most of the video games you play now. This one allows you to use your imagination.
Yes, I said imagination!
I know many of us have forgotten what that is when it comes to games. Let me tell you, the imagination is an amazing thing to tap into again.
You also have to work for anything you have in the game via mining what you want or need. Plus you have to farm crops and animals to have food sources in the game. And if you so choose, you can learn how to use red stone to create automated systems.
I have to admit I find something very peaceful about mining… so long as the mobs leave me alone. Ha!
Yes the game has some scary mobs. For you moms out there with young kids that want the game, it does have a peaceful mode setting. I played in peaceful mode for about the first year.
I’m a little embarrassed to admit that the mobs scared me a little… okay a lot. I have since mastered them so they only kill me on occasion now.
The 'cute' little green guy looking into the window is called a Creeper. He got that name because he creeps up quietly on you and then blows up. If you don't have the right Armour on, the explosion will kill you and destroy nearly everything you were carrying.
He's not so cute anymore, is he? Ha!
I had bought this game many years prior to this, for my son but I had never paid much attention to it. I am sure glad my friends nudged me in.
Not only do I still enjoy the game a few years later but it also gave me an extra connection to my son. He lived far away for college but we were able to hop onto Skype and a server to play the Minecraft game together.
As a YouTuber that plays it, I have been asked if I recommend this game for kids. My answer is always yes. Rather mobs are on or not you still have to earn what you get and create the world you want your pixel person to live in.
(I should note that I use the John Smith texture pack when I play. And I created everything you seen, in the above photos, in my game.)
I think I've played minecraft a total of zero times. My grandkids seem to like.
Time is my challenge. I need a 28 hour day lol
Good that it helps you to keep in touch with your son. Priceless.

I'm also a huge Minecraft fan, and a #MinecraftMum. I put off playing it for a long time, but my son became interested and as he was only young we spent time exploring the game together.

Its awesome to meet another Minecraft mom! :) I was so glad to have that extra connection while my son lived away. He was gone for 8 years. Being able to play the game with him helped keep me sane.
(He was over 8 hours away so we could not visit often).

It's neat to see what their minds can come up with. :)

Yeah, and to be honest I also enjoy watching my son playing that game because it take a lot of removing and arranging blocks to build something. I once saw him feeding a pig inside a house, which is funny because his pig pet is throwing a tantrum.

Yeah, and I have to admit they behave just like a real pig.
