Open AI Develops a Dota 2 Bot that Beats the Best Players in the Game

in gaming •  7 years ago

As you all know I am an avid fan of Dota 2. Yesterday, Open AI unleashed a bot so powerful that none of the pro players were able to beat it. To put in perspective how epic this was, bots in the game are typically seen as a training ground for beginners. They become completely inferior to you after your first 50 hours or so.

What's more impressive is that the team behind this allegedly never taught it the game. They simply set it up to fight against itself in a 1v1 match until it mastered the game. It went from a complete idiot to godlike level in just 2 weeks.

Dota 2 is not an easy game. It is a much more complex version of chess. Not only that but you don't get to spend 5 minutes before you make a move. You have to react to game changes in real time. That plus the fact that there are several mental warfare methods you do in-game to beat your opponents.

The bot impressively showed those. It was able to fake an attack, bait you to cast your spells, creep aggro, etc. Skills that are seen to be uniquely human.

Remember that earlier this month Google's deepmind AI was able to teach itself how to walk. Mental warfare+walking = Real life terminator confirmed.

Skynet coming soon ....

At this rate, the AI might teach itself to program its own terminator.
