I personally think the future of VR is bringing concerts and live events to the home. I don't know how active people will be with VR eSports. Most people play video games because they don't want to or simply can't do the same things physically IRL.
Most VR games are great for immersion in stories or exploration or open world games. I don't know that a basketball VR game will have much of a following as a lot of gamers are couch potatoes IMO
