You've probably never heard of this game, but one you probably HAVE heard of, The Legend of Kyrandia, is based on this one, whose full title is Kyrandia: Fantasy World of Legends. If you're into adventure games and you don't mind watching me play a text adventure, you should watch this.
This game, as you will see, was a hybrid between a text adventure and an RPG. On the adventure side, it had long room and object descriptions, many puzzles of the kind typically seen in adventure games, and commands of the type VERB OBJECT (PREPOSITION OBJECT). On the RPG side, it was a multiplayer online game with realtime interactions and PvP combat; players had levels, hit points, spell points, and status conditions, albeit nothing as detailed as typical RPGs have.
Thanks to RogueIndustrialist and Elanarae among others for setting precedents for video LPing text adventures.
Similar elements to The Legend of Kyrandia we see in this episode:
- A willow tree
- Gems lying about in random places in the forest (and from almost the same set, too)
- An invisibility spell
- A spell to turn you into a will-o'-wisp
- A temple (although this one is outdoors as befits the nature theme)
- Lavender roses (they grow in several places in this game)
That's 6 things just in the first video!
I recommend viewing this at no less than 360p; the text is almost illegible at 240p.
Here is the first part of my map of this game (ignore the outdated email address there):
