Do you think that you sometimes waste money on unnecessary things? You have not seen anything yet
The Counter-Strike World Championship ended at the end of the week. The American Cloud 9 group became the new world champion and received a prize of half a million dollars. One gamer decided to spend $ 61,000 on a unique souvenir from the event.
The Gamer purchased Skin for one of the weapons in the game, which was inspired by the winning team and even includes the signature of the professional skader Skadoodle For a final sum of $ 60,052, this anonymous gamer became the only player in the world with this item so that anyone who sees it uses This weapon in the game will immediately inform the person in question.
It should be noted that this is a design set only for a virtual item, which gives no competitive advantage in the game itself. In the game community there is great criticism of such deals. These cosmetic items should provide an incentive for "regular" gamers to play and watch events, hoping they will receive rare items in random "boxes".
But in most cases, gamers who get the rare items do not keep them for themselves, but sell them in the gray market for a lot of money. The gamer who sold the current weapon was not the one who received it. He bought it for $ 35,000 (and then sold for almost double the price). Instead of playing - these players turn the game into a market.
someone with more money then brains..like mama used to say "a fool and his money is soon parted"

This reminds me of a story from a few years back where some dude spent over 600k on a virtual asteroid! https://singularityhub.com/2010/11/21/man-sells-virtual-real-estate-in-online-game-for-635000-wtf-video/#sm.0001owub5tua7dknrmx1inuhrnnoy
Not that it would be worth it, but couldn't you buy the rights to have a real asteroid named after you for that money? At least that would give you a legacy. Of course, I feel like I'd be a lot happier, and a better person, if I donated that money to a charity instead. You know, eliminate poverty in a town, suicide prevention, maybe an orphanage or something.

This is wild. I personally find myself having trouble coughing up $0.99 for 5 more moves in games like Candy Crush Saga, where my purchase has a direct effect on my enjoying the game more than without making that purchase.
I cannot knock anyone involved in this though. There is big money selling and reselling virtual items. Just look at what Blizzard did with Diablo 3 for instance. I remember Everquest being a big one with people selling stuff outside the game, meeting in the game to deliver, and turning a tidy profit doing it.
This is really nothing new, other than the ridiculous price tag involved. The big question is, what will be the item that tops this gun/skin in cost?

This is where gaming has gotten so silly.
Its beautiful to remember that things are only worth what we're willing to pay for them, so something that is not even real could be worth so much...
Gives us hope for the future of the job market in VR world. :)
