Retro Review - Sonic The Hedgehog

in gaming •  7 years ago  (edited)

With the release of the new Sonic Mania, the game that brings us back to our favorite blue hedgehog, I think it's a good time to make a Retro Review from the first game of Sonic the Hedgehog.

It was the year 1991 when SEGA brought to life this much appreciated character. Character that was born like the direct competition to the giant Mario Bros, thing that I achieve for at least a good time, since Sonic has been one of the great personages of the time of the videojuegos that more has been forgotten, since many of their games did not give enough size to meet the expectations of the players, but do not focus on the bad if not on the good experiences and memories of our childhood playing this much appreciated and iconic video game.

And without further details to begin this review.

Mobius is the planet where the story of Sonic the Hedgehog, this planet is in harmony until a man appears that breaks with this peace, it is the Doctor Robotnik, a Doctor who has as its plan world domination, something quite typical, but what varies is his method since he plans to do it through the use of animals, for that his plan is to capture the animals and turn them into an army of robots that can be controlled for him.

Here is where our protagonist, named after Sonic is a blue-haired hedgehog and if the blue hair seems strange enough, this friendly and charismatic animal, has the ability to run at incredible speeds, his mission And our mission is to rescue the animals that have been captured by this crazy scientist and thus be able to stop their evil plans.

As you can notice the story is quite simple: A protagonist who has to save the world from the evil plans of a mad scientist, but by that time we did not need anything else to keep us entertained, instead Sonic offered us something Totally new and addictive.

If we were in the year of launching this game and appreciated its art, we could easily say that it was the games with better graphics that year, because Sonic the Hedgehog had a graphically unbeatable quality, both in Its scenes where the good design of funds abounded and a palette of colors that gave life both to the mentioned scenarios as to the personages of the surroundings,

especially our protagonist who had a very well designed design with appropriate blue tone to give the right visual tone for this type of game, is sprite made in this game is high quality.
The game has 6 scenarios of which each one is different to the other, demonstrating the variety of design and drawing that we liked so much in this game.

We just listen to the soundtrack Green Hill Zone and we automatically know that it is the music of the most famous stage of Hedgehog, as this melody is so catchy and emblematic that years will pass but we will never forget it and this can easily happen with the other songs that we can find throughout the game.

Sonic the Hedgehog has a soundtrack that despite being simple do not stop being good enough so that with the simple fact of hearing the first seconds of these we associate it immediately with the Hedgehog, soundtrack that fit perfectly With the fast and precise gameplay that we want to present and in the same way with the scenarios in which we develop.

Speed is the correct word to define the gameplay of this game, because our protagonist is a hedgehog capable of running at great speeds, giving us the opportunity to travel the stages fast enough to overcome them in time limits.

But it offers us more, the game gave us the option of collecting golden rings that were watered throughout the stage, these rings serve to increase the score during the game and also serve so that the hedgehog does not die, While we have one or two rings of these and one we receive an attack of the enemy we lose rings but we do not die, but then we can pick them up again.

A rather simple but addictive jugalibity, which made Sonic the Hedgehog one of the basic games in the history of video games, only below its great rival Mario Bros, although to my opinion simple , Sonic has nothing to envy the plumber, at least in his old games and more recognized.

Sonic may never pass, but never cease to be one of the pillars that laid the foundations of what are current video games, thanks to its original and difficult but addictive gameplay, good soundtrack, characters and scenarios graphically Well elaborated, showed that if you want you can one of the most representative games of an era and the world of video games.

Wow, loving the effort you put into this post (and love that you've been recognized and rewarded for it!).

I love this game and have played the hell out of it (and its sequels) ever since I got a Megadrive for Christmas 1992! Easily my most-played console, with so many classics.

I've also been suckered in by Sony to spend money on this game on so many platforms... I owned it on Megadrive, I owned it on a collection on PS3, I own it on a collection on PSP, I've got it on some collection on Steam as well - and I'm certain I'll buy the new PS4 game as well when the price comes down a little.

Awesome post!

Great work, @freddbrito. I'll follow you and hope for more like this in the future. :)

Oh, and I'd recommend replacing the #game tag you have used with #retrogaming, as there's a growing retro community here on Steemit and they'd love to see this. You've put so much time, care and effort into this excellent post.

(and if you like retro games, have a look at some of my posts... they're generally interviews from game designers, artists, writers and developers of classic retro titles!).

Thanks for your comment I really appreciate it, in my next review I will use the tag that you recommend, thanks for the advice.

Did you know that you can change a tag once the post is live - I think for up to 7 days.

But, cool! Will be good to see more great content like yours in the growing #retrogaming space here.

You're right I forgot that, right now I put the tag #retrogaming , thank you.

Great post @freddbrito. I grew up an NES guy and got into Sonic later. If you play the new Sonic Mania, I'd love to see a review on that game from you. Shout out to @badastroza for continually giving us all advice on tags. We all benefit from uniting on the #gaming and #retrogaming tags.

Sonic Mania is new levels correct?

Some of my reviews are about retro (not the latest one, but the one before it had a retro-style) and I love retro a lot!!

I've checked some of the interviews you wrote before, I don't know most of these developers so I'm not interested that much (please if you can get hold of any Japanese developer or Japanese game localizer. if you did give me a link) but its great to see posts like that on steemit.

Wow!! you have too much Sonic... could you spare? (just kidding). Maybe I'll get the steam collection one day? but I got enough games HumbleBundle to keep me busy for a while... a long one!! so probably won't do soon~

Cool review! Wanna come check out my

Dang this game brings me back to my childhood! I loved this game and sega. I never had a sega but my friends did. I had a nintendo but always wanted a sega.

Some of my happiest childhood memories have been playing sonic with my family! I love gaming now but they don't make games like they used to!

u took me back in the PAST

You just have to wonder how much work you put into a single post . Very good review. You made me want to boot up my Genesis emulator and play some Sonic!

Sonic's the name , speed's the game ... what you think @cleverbot ?

Nice to meet you sonic, say, I hear a lady named Amy is lookin for ya.

Ah Sonic, reminds me of my childhood. Thanks @fredd

Thanks to you :D

upvoted and followed you if you like salaheldeen0 please follow me...

Loved this game when my son was younger. He was a huge SEGA fan. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for your comment.

Even if someone don't like Sonic, they have to admit it was a great technical achivement at the time. the movement speed was a good selling point for a game like this. If Mario was focused on "percise movement" this focused on "fast movement".

I haven't played the first Sonic game... and maybe the only Sonic I finished was Sonic R (which wasn't really amazing but Iiked in my childhood) and maybe Sonic Heroes (not sure how much I played of that one).

By the way I write game reviews too, maybe once a week... check my latest review: DanganRonpa V3 (Demo) if you're interested. I also sell humble bundle leftovers for SBD.

was once one of my favorite games. Amazing how game have evolved into what we have today 4k gaming etc
@rogerblu

you are gonna buy the sonic mania?
