The Secret of Mana: Episode 1

A new adventure has begun! When this game was first released for the SNES I might have only played it briefly. I think my friend might have had it but I’m pretty sure I never rented it. Time and money for a non working teen was limited so I only focused on various games. Now with me being deep into Final Fantasy II I wanted another game to fill out the channel otherwise it would become monotonous. I went with Secret of Mana because I’ve always heard great things about it and the style of game interested me. I mention while playing Illusion of Gaia which was a similar kind of RPG.

Now the first recording I did I deleted because I had no idea what I was doing and I kept getting stomped. Getting the hang of it will take me some time but overall it is a fun game so far. We get introduced to the backstory of the land which involved the gods being angered by the arrogance of man so a war took place. A hero emerged to combat the beasts sent by the gods. Once victorious those times and actions faded into legend. Randi a young outsider to the village of Protos follows two other boys, Elliot and Timothy, to the falls outside of town. They’re not the most welcoming of people and didn’t want Randi to tag along. After some discussion of whether or not they should be there Randi loses his footing and falls from the log bridge. Wandering around a sword in the water calls to him. A ghost of a knight tells him to take the sword and in Arthurian fashion removes it from the stone. With a rusty sword in hand Randi does some landscaping to make his way back to the village and the townsfolk are not pleased with him, especially the Elder. The Mana Sword is a relic that is supposed to keep Protos safe and Randi is the scapegoat for monsters appearing. After an earthquake Elliot and Randi fall into a sinkhole. With the mysterious knight giving Randi some pointers the monster is defeated. First time playing I was killed about 10 times, but now I know how to heal and kick some ass.

Randi is exiled and now has to embark on his journey to restore the Mana Sword. Already he’s managed to make a new friend along the way. Primm, a girl living in Castle Pandora. She saved his ass from being gobbled up by goblins. Since I’m off until Saturday I should be getting a good amount of time in on this game.
