Hue - A Unique Game On Colors And The Perspective Of Colors (Original Content)

in gaming •  7 years ago

Hi guys, we just downloaded and installed this game today (Hue) because it's free for Playstation Plus, along with other games like Metal Gear Solid 5.

This game is called Hue, and from the name you can probably deduce that it may have something to do with colors.

Disclaimer: We're still new to the game and here's what we observe / first impression.

What is Hue? / And what we think about it

It seemed to be a black & white game at first, and kinda dull. Having said that, it has its own mysterious pull to it. You're left with the though, what is the game about? And you play along to see what it's about.

Okay, keep walking.

There will be small envelopes where you can pick up and there's a voice that will play when you read the letter (you know what i mean). Apparently someone got stuck somewhere and perhaps she ended up in a spectrum of color that doesn't exist! For some reason, it felt super deeeep.

What if I do not exist because you can't see me because I'm now in a different spectrum of color that is not discovered?

Whoa.. Slow down there!

Oh hello you.

Okay now there's a town. Maybe some clues? Guess not. There's nothing but portals and you have to keep exploring.

Now, here's something new! A pink color brick wall? That's when it occurred to us that this game is perhaps to find for colors and to see colors in a different perspective. For instance, if you only see things from a black and white point of view, you may not see different colors in life. Makes sense? Probably not.

So we found a portal and it led us to a new place!

There was a man who was "stuck" because of BLUE boulders. We later found a blue item and since then, it has unlocked the color blue for us. When we changed "our view to blue", the boulders disappeared and we saved the guy.

After that, we began exploring a new area in blue.

Here's the guy who was stuck earlier but now he's free. The blue boulders disappeared when you see things in blue.

In other words, objects appear or disappear depending on which color you're seeing.

The easiest part is now over. Back to exploration.

If you look at the image below, you'll see a black circle that is going to completely cover the blue. That happens when you use the (R) joystick. You can choose the default black/greyish color or the different colors you found.

It enables you to see (and feel) objects that are otherwise invisible.

Here comes the challenges!

If you look at the image above, you'll see blue walls in the grey map. When you turn your joystick to the "blue view", the walls disappear.

When it disappears, you'll be able to jump on the platforms to go to the next destination.

Take a look at another challenge:

If you switch it to blue, the boulders will drop onto you and you'll immediately die. LOL.

Hence, you'll have to hide at the side first, before switching your view to blue. The boulders will drop on the spikes and you can walk over it. It gets harder from here.

See what happens when it drops on me? DEAD.

Let's move on to the next important juncture.

Okay, we finally found a new color! It will be placed on a platform like the above.

Now we have unlocked the pink color! That makes things harder though. The more colors you have, the harder it will be later.

If you look below, you'll see 3 different colors, i.e. greyish black, pink and blue. Now you'll have to keep switching colors to play on. We only have 3 colors. Imagine when we get to 5 or 6. If you choose the wrong color you'll probably die as well.

Here's what happens when we change to a different color:

The part which was spikes turn into a platform. Keep doing that to cross. There was a part where we had to change colors mid-air as well.

Now that the part is done, we found a new color!

Looks like we have orange now. So, 4 different colors, or rather 3 colors and 1 lack of it.

It gets tougher as you can see below:

First impression

This game looks to be one of those puzzle-solving games like Big Little Planet 3 and it should get more fun from hereon. The puzzles will definitely be more challenging and we anticipate that you have to make split-second decisions on which color to use as you jump mid-air. As such, it gets tougher with more colors, since you have to use the (R) dualstick to change colors and it's hard to estimate which color you're picking.

If you're a PS Plus user, you can get this for free!

That's it for now. Thanks for reading everyone!
