Do you have what it takes to take on other players in popular Nintendo games? If you do, you might be interested in competing in the Official Nintendo Australasian Open 2019. As long as you're over 13 years of age, own a Switch, a subscription to the Nintendo Online Service (a free 7 day trial is available), a decent internet connection (the Nintendo LAN Adapter highly recommended but not required) a copy of the game you'd like to compete in (either Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Splatoon 2 or Both!) and the will to defeat your opponents, than you are ready to compete with this opportunity that comes around once in a life time... well, once every year or so.
The tournament isn't limited to just one game, you can enter both - and any skill level is accepted, you don't need to meet any requirements (other than having Nintendo Online) to enter. Even if you do get knocked out, you can enter once per qualifier match to have a second shot at glory, just make sure you're a resident of either Australia or New Zealand, as international players will need to register for their countries qualifiers held at a separate date.
The Smash Bros. Ultimate Qualifiers take place on March 2nd (11:00 AEDT / 13:00 NZDT) and March 9th (11:00 AEDT / 13:00 NZDT) with the Grand Final taking place on the 7th of April held at Melbourne Supanova. Registration for the Smash Qualifiers close 1hr before the event.
The Splatoon 2 Qualifiers take place on March 16th (11:00 AEDT / 13:00 NZDT) and March 23rd (11:00 AEDT / 13:00 NZDT) with the Grand Final taking place on the 6th of April held at Melbourne Supanova. Registration for the Smash Qualifiers close 24hrs before the event.
The event is sure to be an intense fight between people and teams as they duke it out to find out who is the most skilled players in Australia and New Zealand - and something to check out if you're attending Melbourne Supanova. You can read more about each day matches are taking place on the Official Nintendo Australasian Open page. If you need further information or help, especially closer to the day of your matches, you can get help on the ESL Discord right here. Good luck and most importantly, have fun!
