The CEO of Take-Two, publishers of Rockstar Games, stated Red Dead Redemption 2 would "redefine our industry" in an earnings call. CEO Strauss Zelnick said the game will be "yet another creative milestone" for Rockstar. The story broke via Gamespot, who explain that while revealing little detail, Take-Two have immense faith in and expectations for the game. Gamespot speculate that part of this is the "new and innovative multiplayer mode", which Rockstar have remained quiet about.

Zelnick states "We fully expect the October 26 launch of Red Dead Redemption 2 to mark yet another creative milestone in Rockstar Games’ renowned history, and will further illustrate their ability to deliver entertainment experiences that redefine the industry and captivate audiences throughout the world.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to 2010's critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption, in which players take control of Arthur Morgan, a member of the Dutch Van der Linde gang. Players will evade both federal agents and bounty hunters as they explore the harsh Western frontier. The trailers show off some impressive graphics and the distinct Western tone of the first game. Zelnick states "Red Dead Redemption 2 is Rockstar Games' first title developed from the ground up for the current console generation," and the progress between Red Dead Redemption 2 and games like Grand Theft Auto V is impressive.

Zelnick also believes that the launch itself "is poised to be another massive entertainment event." This huge expectations are driven by the success of Rockstar Games' last release, Grand Theft Auto V. Zelnick also told the earnings call that Grand Theft Auto V is about to sell over 100 million copies, becoming the third game to do so beneath Minecraft (144 million) and Tetris (170 million). Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto V had become the most profitable game of all time and most recently they released the After Hours DLC for Grand Theft Auto Online.
