With the New Challengers Stage wrapped up at FACEIT London, we say goodbye to the bottom eight competitors.
After five rounds over five days, teams that have lost three of their matches, sadly go home. The top eight teams that have won three of their matches, however, move on to the next stage. These teams will then join the top eight teams from the last Major in Boston to make up the New Legends Stage. The sixteen teams will then battle it out to see who will move on to The New Champions Stage which will begin with the Quarterfinals on September 20th.
There are some surprises in this mix of teams, especially from those going home.
Just a week ago we saw North taking home the trophy at Dreamhack Masters Stockholm, only for them to just miss out here. Previous Major winners, Gambit Esports are also going home along with frequent playoffs team, OpTiC Gaming. We also say goodbye to our Aussie Renegades who gave it a good crack and we are just happy to see them representing Australian Counter-Strike.
Fellow Danish team Astralis, who came runners-up to North at Dreamhack is in equal third place moving onto the next stage. This means that they managed to win three matches but lost one in the process. The team that beat them in that match was Ninja in Pyjamas who have been getting back into form lately, taking an equal first place. They share that top spot with North Americans, Team Liquid.
Moving onto the New Legends Stage, the top eight teams from ELEAGUE Boston got to skip this week's stage and have been awaiting the victors. These teams include ELEAGUE Champions, Cloud 9 and runners-up, FaZe Clan. They are accompanied by NaVi, mibr, mousesports, Winstrike Team, G2 Esports and Fnatic. The New Challengers above, now join them to see who will make it to the Quarterfinals. Those that do will become The New Legends and get a free ticket to The New Legends Stage of the next Major.
The New Legends Stage begins on September 12th and will be live streamed on FACEIT's Twitch. Fingers crossed the rest of the tournament can go down without any more technical difficulties. Let us know which team you are getting behind to win a share of the million dollar prize pool.
