Gaming Culture: MMO is not a Mechanic

in gaming •  7 years ago

MMO is not a Mechanic - Raiding, grinding, dungeons, guilds, parties, healers, DPS, tanks. All of these are staples of the MMO genre, ones that make absolutely no sense, since there's nothing in “MMO “that describes such mechanics. What could have been a great and expansive genre is now just a succession of EverQuest clones.

Totally agree with you and the comments as well. There's supply because of the demand. I spoke with some much younger gamers, they seem to look for totally different things than me..
Upvoted mate :)

You said everything that I think, but the truth is that as long as people keep spending money on stuff that follow the same old, tired mechanics, there's not much we can do about it. And there's tons of money to be made, apparently. TES: Online, Star Wars: TOR, great sagas gone MMO because money. Who cares if they're shallow as hell and destroy something good and meaningful.
I really hope what you say will come true. I am somewhat skeptical, but I hope you're right about MMOs changing in the future.

neeeaaaa... not quite accurate... when they say:"The market don´t want that." they mean :"there is no Publisher willing to pay us, to make a game there is no Data for"
MMOs are ridiculously expensive, on the short and the long run. It´s always about minimizing the risk.
Another problem, especially today, our money is not relay something worth. when was the last time our Money had a inflation? by 2% a Year your money has lost ~25% after 10 Years, so that´s a Problem.

You nailed it with this video. Every time I hear there is a new mmo in the making, the first thing coming to my mind is: It's going to be a wow clone with mmo features. Really sad that this mmo potential is wasted with wow clones. But you should check out Life is Feudal: MMO. It has a nice concept like nearly every building on the map was build by another player and so on. Player interaction is a big part of the experience. And the best part is, there is nearly none wow mechanic to be found ;)

Im so agree whit you. Everthing is correct! Good post dude. UP VOTE
