Introduction

What's up guys, it's me ggteixeira once again and for this post we'll be reviewing the game 'Player Unknown's Battlegrounds.' We'll be going over the game's concept, gameplay, soundtrack, map, content and more as we try to cover both the good as well the bad. One thing I'd like to note before the post itself though is the fact that this is all based off of my opinion. You may have a different opinion and disagree with me. That's completely fine and acceptable, hell, you can even feel free to post your thoughts down below, I'd actually appreciate it! With that out of the way, I hope this post helps you decide whether or not to pick up the game and more importantly, I hope you guys enjoy the read.

Now before we begin specializing into different categories of the game I'd like to give an over-all and brief description of Player Unknown's Battlegrounds. If you already know about the base concept of the game, feel free to skip this part of the post onto the more detailed parts of the game and my opinion on them down below! If you do choose to read it though and have any questions or concerns regarding this bit, feel free to leave a reply down below. I'll make sure respond to the best of my abilities as soon as possible, which shouldn't be long.

What is Player Unknown's Battlegrounds? What's it's concept?

Player Unknown's Battlegrounds is an action-packed large-arena based battle royal game where players are thrown into a large island with tons of other players. There the objective is to be the last man or team standing doing whatever it takes to survive and takeout all other live-competition. In the start of each match players are flown over the island by a plane where they drop from and parachute onto the island down below. Once they land, players on a timer scramble to scavenge and loot whatever gear they can find all whilst fighting each other in desperation to win the match. At the end of the timer, the size of the map is slowly closed smaller and smaller forcing players closer together. Eventually, all remaining players are forced together in a very small area where they fight it out until the last man or team is left standing.

If I were to compare Player Unknown's Battlegrounds to anything, it'd definitely be Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games, a book based around a similar concept where people are thrown into an arena and forced to fight until only one stands. Player Unknown's Battlegrounds itself though is filled with lots of weapons, vehicles and other cool features that give it endless fun replay-ability every single time. The gunplay feels smooth, the variety of different ways to kill each other infinite and the map vast. All three of these elements plus more make the game a truly greatly battle royal in the vague aspects of things.

Gameplay

Player Unknown's Battlegrounds runs on the Unreal Engine 4. What does this mean? It means the game feels and runs real smooth. The gun-play feels both realistic, fair and fun creating tense action pack moments which will always give you an adrenaline pump before leaving you with either the satisfying taste of winning or the itching need for more after losing. The developers of this game have really out-done themselves at the gun-part of the game, which is a really big part of the game.

The game's actual movement is also crisp and feels right. It can also be tracked and isn't random or sporadic which doesn't make losses feel unfair or cheated. Random or sudden unreal sharp turns are impossible to do and jumping is kept realistic adding a delay when both jumping off the ground then landing back on it. They even have cool little moving mechanics like running faster when holding lighter guns or no guns at all, which can be a real game changer in certain close-calls constantly happening in-game.

Over-all, my opinion on Player Unknown's Battlegrounds' movement is that it's not only fair but also smooth, crisp and fun too. With a game capable of checking off both these categories, you really got to lean back and acknowledge the job well done the developers did with this. Of course though, Unreal Engine 4 is to be thanked as well.

Content

Player Unknown's Battlegrounds is still in development and because of that there's expected to be tons of more content coming, but keeping this in mind there's still hundreds upon hundreds of hours worth of content already implemented with only more coming in the horizon. There are dozens of different guns in the game including handfuls of pistols, submachine guns, assault rifles, designated marksmen rifles, shotguns, snipers, machine guns and more like crossbows! There's even a few melee weapons, which is really neat considering most the fighting in this game is done with guns. Each of the guns have a unique and different feel for them, with each fitting a different play-style better suited for their own different scenarios.

At the moment there is only one map in the game, a very large island, and whether or not more maps are coming is unknown but the current map in it's current state is fine and has enough in it to keep players coming back for a long time. I've owned the game for over 30+ hours and I've still not even explored more then half the map, which if you think about it is crazy. On the map itself there are tons of different towns, unique areas, houses, vehicles and more to explore, scavenge through and use. Of course only having one map sucks but don't let this fool or give you the illusion that the game isn't any good or fun because of it. In a way, it's quite the contrary.

On a final note with content, in the game's current state there is only one hunger games game-mode which can be played with up to four teammates, but more game-modes have been confirmed to be on the way including a zombies game-mode which I've tested and is tons fun. The hunger games mode though is easily more then enough fun though to keep you occupied for hours upon hours, so don't let this fact also persuade you otherwise.

Overall in the content category of the game, I'd say there is a lot of things in the game to try out and do with of course more coming along the way while the game develops. Because of this, I'd say players have nothing to worry about when it comes to running out of stuff to do in-game! And for all you cosmetic fans out there, there are cosmetics which you an earn in-game for specializing your character!

Soundtrack

There isn't much when it comes towards the game's soundtrack music wise. From what I know there's only the login and title screen theme song which in it's own right is really well done, but besides that, nothing. I wish there was more music for the game and I hope the developers add more, which would really enhance the feel to the game making it a better over-all game in my opinion. I guess when it comes to this we can just wait and see.

When it comes to the sounds in the game though, there are tons and they play a strong role whilst playing. You can if you listen closely hear the directions from which gunfire comes from, footsteps can be heard, and just about everything you do from switching weapons, to jumping, to ricocheting bullets off of whatever, each have a sound to it. When it comes to this part of the game, just like in the gameplay aspect of things, the developers have really out-done themselves.

When it comes to this category of the game, I think what they have is really good but there should definitely be more added. I left the main theme song above this category as well for anyone interested in listening to it, it's really good.

Overall Review

So when it comes to the game's overall review, I'd have to definitely give it a solid 8 out of 10 in it's current state and suggest picking it up on the steam store for anyone who hasn't gotten it already. The gameplay is really smooth, endless hours of content in-game for players to mess around with and a decent but lacking soundtrack to help players really delve themselves into the game. If you've had any doubts on getting the game, you shouldn't right now. On a final note for all Xbox One users out there, the game has been confirmed to be coming out for y'all near the end of the year, so keep an eye out for that!

Conclusion

As always I'd like to go ahead and thank everyone for reading, I hope you guys enjoyed. If you got the extra money laying around I definitely suggest picking up PuBG, it's honestly tons of fun, especially with friends. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding the post feel free to leave them below and I'll reply as soon as I get the chance. Once again thanks for reading and I wish y'all a wonderful day!

I suggest checking out nonameclass's cover of the game's main theme on his piano, it's really well done and sounds great!

I really wanted to play this game. It beat DotA2 in Steam players last time. Nice review! Upvoted it.

The game looks awesome, but sadly I am a console gamer. Will definitely pick it up if it comes up for console but for now have to settle for Fortnite:Battle Royale.

Its a great game, really captures the player and fills the player with mixed feelings of adrenalin, joy, fear and happiness. Nice post.

What do you think about Fortnite then ?

Also, nice post !

I've been playing this game for months now, absolutely love it. I'm trying to make it on the duo/squad FPP leaderboard! I'm almost top 100 but the one thing I wish they would do is optimize this game!! I have a pretty good computer and I'm lagging when I look at city's lol :(

Good review. The game is officially released now and the new map is also in use :)
