Supercell - The art of Microtransactions

in gaming •  7 years ago  (edited)

I am sure that everyone heard about Clash of Clans or Clash of Royale. They were made by company called Supercell. It is mobile game development company founded in June 2010 in Finland. Their first game was browser game called gunshine.net but it has been shut down in 2012 and they started making games for mobile devices.

They business model is to make free-to-play games that profits through the in-game micropayments. You can think “well 2$ are nothing” but in 2016 their revenue was $2.3 billion in 2016. For example EA made 4,4 bilion $ in 2016 but their costs are much greater than Supercells.

They are really passionate about what they are doing you should check their web page. And i really like their business model. I did play their games for few months and didn’t spent a dime, but lot of my friends are spending like a crazy and many of people do, and because of that, you can see their huge sucess.

So what do you think about microtransactions? Are they bad? Or not if they are done well. Let me know down in the comments.

"spending like a crazy and many of people do, because you can see their huge sucess." I'm against this, at this point in the game, its basically ROCK, PAPER, SCISSOR, MONEY. smh great read though :)
