3 dead and 4 close to death. That last round was brutal!
After the zombies moved, we lost another player, making it 4 dead!
We've been chatting about some rule changes and it was suggested to have more than 1 action per turn, however that presents some challenges with the treasure chest idea and with moving past zombies that should have turned into a melee. Until such time as those challenges can be overcome, we will need to stick with the ONE ACTION PER TURN rule.
PROPOSED Rules for the NEXT game for discussion:
Each player will have 1 action per turn. An action is a move of 1 space or an offensive action (fighting). On the first day ONLY they get 3 actions to allow them to spread out.
After all players have completed their action(s), the zombies will take their turn. Zombies will attack when in a player's square.
Zombies get 1 action per turn (except for Runners who can move 2 spaces per turn) and will begin to move after killing the players in its space. All zombies will inflict 1 damage to players if they make a successful hit and can only fight if they are in the same square as a player.
- If a player is in the same square as a zombie, they MUST engage in combat and cannot run away.
- Players sharing a space (after the initial peace-time) MUST engage in melee unless there is a zombie present, in which case they may both attack the zombie.
- Runners and walkers can be killed with a single damage point.
- The hulk requires 2 damage points to kill it.
Players take 3 damage before they die. After being killed, they will re-spawn (as many times as they are killed) at the player starting square as a Walker and their player number will be red to indicate they are a zombie. As a zombie, they take on all characteristics of a Walker (inflict 1 damage and are killed with 1 damage) and can begin moving as soon as they re-spawn at the start point (the following day). Zombie players can no longer claim the prize, however they can move through dark areas freely!
Please pay attention to the moves that have transpired before you, so that your choices are based upon facts as they are and not as they were before (the people that played before you, just altered the situation).
Weapons
- baseball bats do 1 damage and all players will be issued one.
- Axe does 2 damage and can be found inside treasure chests. Smash open (optional) a chest to get the axe with a roll of 4 to 6. If you find a chest guarded by a skeleton then you must kill the skeleton but smashing open the chest is optional. The skeleton requires just 1 hit point to kill.
- As dungeon master, I (or @rollthedice) will roll dice to see if attacks are successful or not. A roll of 1 to 3 is a miss. A roll of 4 to 6 is a hit.
Spawning
Each time a player moves into an un-charted space (blacked out), new zombies spawn based on dice rolls.
6 spawns a Hulk, 5 spawns a runner, 4 spawns a walker and 3, 2 or 1 spawns nothing.
Player actions
Each player will announce their intended actions in the replies to each daily post.
Tell me your player number and what you intend to do. You may either MOVE (N,S,E or W), STAY or ATTACK.
For example: Player 3; Move North. (If entering an uncharted area, @rollthedice to see what is in there.)
Alternatively: Player 3; Attack player 2. (@rollthedice to see if the attack was successful or not.)
In both cases, player 3 made 1 action and their turn is over.
Players MAY NOT attack another player for the first 2 days of play (3+1=4 actions)!
Objective: STAY ALIVE long enough to reach the X in the North-West corner before anyone else does!

Prizes:
Everyone who plays gets daily up-votes and the winner takes the pot. NOTE that the daily up-votes will usually more than cover the entrance fee!
Winners can also print their own "survival" token using this link.
Zombie Turn after the players made their moves:
A Runner attacks P12, rolls 3, and fails to do any damage.
A Hulk attacks P4, rolls a 6 and P4's prediction came true (Next time DO NOT think negatively!!!). Player 4 bleeds to death!
Spawning
Each time a player moves into an un-charted space (blacked out), new zombies spawn based on dice rolls.
6 spawns a Hulk, 5 spawns a runner, 4 spawns a walker and 3, 2 or 1 spawns nothing.

You put up a good fight. I was sorry to see you die.
I introduced the ideas I have for the next game at the top of today's game post. Not sure if you read it yet. Any comments or suggestions about it?

The new rules sound good to me! I'm excited to be zombified next time. ;) I'm also excited for the treasure chests.

I think it would be fun to be zombified, but better to win that pot!

Don't give up! You are too close to change your attitude now. Keep thinking POSITIVE thoughts. MAKE the dice roll in your favor. Make the zombie attacks fail.

Awesome! Looking forward to joining in, and the new rules sound exciting!
One thing I might suggest, is, regarding players re-spawing as zombies--it seems they should have some type of "incentive" to play as zombies; perhaps not winning the loot at the end, but, maybe something like.. if the (human) zombies are able to prevent any humans from claiming the prize (i.e., zombies kill off all humans), the prize "rolls over" into the next game or something... That way, although they may not win anything that round, the zombie players have incentive to overtake other players, and then have a chance to get some of that back on the next go-round. Just a thought.

Great input; thanks! I wonder if that would make it so that the live players NEVER win? There will be more zombies than live players near the end, so we don't want to give them too much incentive! I'm really curious to see how this current game plays out. The next one should be a riot! (literally and figuratively)
My plan is to include 2 plain treasure chests and one guarded by a skeleton. That means only 3 players could potentially pick up an axe. Players may decide speed is more important than chopping power and leave the axe for another player. I would love to get into the game myself, but that wouldn't be fair because I know where I put the chests! Those who forge ahead into the darkness take the greatest risks of landing in trouble, so they should get the better weapon when the tailgaters catch up at the end and try to grab the lead from the trailblazers.

Yeah, good point, although isn't that usually how it is in "real" zombie-life lol . way more zombies than people? But the people make up for it by having much better weapons and speed. And i'd imagine there's gotta be a way to "randomly generate" a simple "gameboard" that had a few hidden whatevers under it lol

That's true! Let's keep all those ideas in mind as we see how this first game plays out and take into consideration what the majority would like to see happen.

Ah, did I miss it again?? See, i'm probably too scatterbrained to follow a game like this anyhow lol; and ya'll would prob just get frustrated with me haha I appreciate it, though.. Did you implement the idea with players re-spawning as zombies?? How's that gone?

Yup, you get to re-spawn. And if you want to play, we just began, so if you make a move TODAY (within the next 18 hrs.), I think it would be fine to jump in. You may make up to 4 moves since everyone was allowed 3 yesterday and 1 today.
Since we just started and nobody has died yet, we don't know how that idea will work out.

Ha ha ha!!!.... That would be funny!
If you are serious about it, how would we implement it? Have the player get a move of 2 spaces for just 1 turn and be able to skip one blacked-out area? Then need to dismount or allow the Runner to dissolve and re-spawn?
