What is Smite?
Smite is a third-person multiplayer online battle arena. The main twist to the game is that instead of normal hero's you can play as Gods from real-world mythology. Smite in its core is a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) so it takes many elements of games like Dota 2 and League Of Legends. Your main objective in the game is to defeat the enemy Titan the team that first defeats the opposing Titan are victorious. There are many Gods to play as and there are many more coming to Smite in the near future. Smite is available for both PC and console, which makes it one of the only MOBA games to be available on a console. Which means everyone can enjoy this MOBA of the Gods.
My experience
I've played the game a bit and well even though it's not quite my type of game it still holds some value in any gamer's eyes. The lore as with real mythology is very expansive and explains in great detail something about every character in the game. Smite has a very steep learning curve and it really isn't that easy to get started, but when you do everything comes pretty quickly. In my opinion, damage dealing characters in this game feel much stronger than tanky characters due to the fact that without damage you really don't do much else. Also what else I found a bit frustrating with Smite is that it takes a lot of time to level up and to unlock new heroes. The gameplay feels smooth but sometimes overwhelming due to the fact that you actually have to aim your basic attacks not just your spells. Skill is indeed a big factor in this game and if you can't land any abilities it won't come easy for you. And you will notice that you get stuck with the same characters for a while since they cost so much in-game money.
What others think of the game
This game has had an interesting past, but it had no problem fighting through the crowded PC gaming industry because it was just that unique firstly being the only ''good'' MOBA on console and secondly being so different from all the currently existing MOBAs. There are plenty of people who still play the game, and of course, there are people who play it on a professional level. Along with that you will be able to find YouTube videos of others playing the game and showing you how it's done.
The future for the game
The future is looking ok, both because of the fact that it is as I said the only good MOBA game on console and because it is still different enough for the PC gamer. It might not be the most popular game of the year, far from it actually, but it still holds up with some of the bigger titles in the free to play section, still maintaining its spot on the first page (on Steam). Most of the original developers, however, have shifted over from Smite to Paladins, so you can not expect Smite to be the same as it was years ago. But I guess a new team equals a new experience, so it's probably for the better.
Conclusion
Smite is a really fresh perspective of a MOBA and is surely worth your time, there is no real major problem with the game, apart from the leveling system as I already mentioned, but other than that it is a playable title. I would recommend this game to anyone who wants a MOBA that needs skill to play, and also a lot of time, don't forget time, you'll need a lot of that too.
