holoz0r's A-Z of Steam: BIT.TRIP.BEAT

in gaming •  6 years ago

If you look at my Steam library, it tells you that I have played nine hours of Bit.Trip.Beat. That is a complete and utter fabrication. I've played practically only the contents of the video below, and I have no shame in saying that. I must have picked this game up as part of a Humble Bundle, or a Indie Gala or Fanatical package for something else that I wanted at the time.

First, have a video showcasing the gameplay that Bit.Trip.beat offers, then I'll try to explain what is going on:

Bit Trip Beat sees you become a paddle, as you've no doubt played before in numerous Break-out style games. Except, in classical breakout style games, you deal with one moving projectile, and destroy blocks or bricks with the ball.

In Bit Trip Beat, you're defending the left side of the screen from pixels that come flying at you. There's some rhythm served up alongside this, with a bleep, bloop, and beepy soundtrack to keep you awake while you're not having a seizure from all the pixels flying everywhere.

It is a game of skill - skill to keep a steady, quick hand on the mouse, coupled with the skill of concentration, and the ability to filter out extra visual stimulus and noise that the game throws at you in a bid to provide distraction.

This is not a game I would recommend, and it definitely isn't something you should own in 2019.
