Sony's E3 2017 Presentation - The rundown

in gaming •  7 years ago

Here I am, with a wrap from the Sony E3 Press conference. Sorry its late guys, I was at work during the conference and couldn’t post straight away, as I was working. I’ve watched the stream now, and have penned my thoughts.

Hidden Agenda looks very interesting on the PS4. The development pedigree at play here is good, with Supermassive Games of Until Dawn infamy ready to give us another title in the 'slighty' darker genre. Well, darker than French studio's Quantic Dream's fairly similar quicktime event simulator titles like Heavy Rain, Fahrenheit, and Beyond: Two Souls.

Detroit: Become Human

They are represented here at E3 2017, too; with more information unveiled about Detroit: Become Human; and that makes me pretty happy. This game will explore an android uprising (don’t worry, iPhone users, not those sorts of androids) and looks like it will be the first decent cyberpunk and dystopian science fiction game. Detroit: Become Human looks like it will really explore humanity in the vein of Bladerunner and Neuromancer, did in the literary world; well, at least until CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 releases.

Then there's Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, of which we expected to see more of. This game has a release date, and has been available for pre-order for a while now, August 22. This game should do pretty well for itself, given the quality of the prior Uncharted titles.

As predicted, there's some DLC for Horizon Zero Dawn that will let you kill more robo-dinosaurs and experience fancy HDR, 4K, and Aloy's incredibly detailed hair all over again. This might be worth a look if you enjoyed the original and want more. This one will be set in the winter, and looks like it will please.

Then, Bethesda strike again, with another VR MEGA REMASTER. This time, its Skyrim, on PSVR. Players will get to buy the game for the second time on the platform, just after they've completed purchasing TSO: Morrowind, and the Skyrim remaster. Nice cash grab there, guys. Again.

Bigger news: literally: the biggest news. Shadow of the Colossus is getting a 4K remaster. I am okay with this, and it would be a title that would be worth purchasing again (I lost had it on the PS2) lets ignore the fact that there was a recent ICO / Shadow of the Colossus double pack released to bring the game to current gen territory not too long ago.

Then, there’s the usual suspects. New God of War. Nice tech demo. Great visuals, as always. Monster Hunter: World, where people go to lose entire months of their life. Heroic sounding music and the usual combat. Dunno what they were doing with the first part of the trailer though.

Then there’s the shovelware: Marvel vs Capcom, Destiny 2, Call of Duty: WW2(again?). Pah. Give me something new. Enter Square Enix now, with heavy metal riffs and characters fishing in VR. Final Fantasy: Fishing.

I am unimpressed by what I see in the Spiderman trailer. It looks like a standard superhero game. Its the comic book movie of the comic book video game type of fare. Hollow, nonintellectual stuff with action and not much else on display.

TLDR: What holoz0r thinks is worth a deeper look

  • Horizon: Zero Dawn DLC "The Frozen Wilds"
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • Hidden Agenda

Loved the conference, but my biggest disapointement was that no news on "Death Stranding" by Hideo Kojima. Also, I was looking forward to know about playerunknown's battlegrounds but they annouced it for XBOX, don't know when/if it's coming on playstation also ...
