New 2DS bundle features Hylian Shield design, A Link Between Worlds preloaded now

Nintendo continues to put its trust in the 3DS family of consoles, coming out with new bundles and games seemingly at random. Today, they announced on Twitter that a New 2DS XL console is coming out, sporting a fancy Hylian Shield design. The steel-looking plates appear raised and textured, making it feel as authentic as it looks.

This new system comes pre-loaded with A Link Between Worlds, the pseudo-sequel to the SNES classic A Link to the Past. For those who may have missed out, this is a great time to get in there and catch up on some other favorite Zelda games. Thanks to the Virtual Console and a couple of re-releases, you can now play every Zelda up through Majora’s Mask!

It should be worth emphasizing that this is a New 2DS XL, which is more similar to the New 3DS XL, but with all the 3D bits removed. It’s kind of a shame because A Link Between Worlds had some of the 3DS’s best use of 3D, but if that’s not your thing, than you can’t go wrong with this system.

This will be sold exclusively through GameStop, and will release on July 2 for $159.99.
