World of Warcraft, is it worth it $20 a month?

Hello! First and foremost thank you for deciding to read my blog, it means a lot to me. Today we'll be going over my first impressions and playthrough of World of Warcraft. I've never played World of Warcraft before but have some experience playing MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game) like Guild Wars 2, Diablo 4, and ESO to name a few. One thing to keep in mind when reading my first impressions of the game is that I'm not the biggest fan of MMORPGs. I prefer first-person shooters, player-verse-player oriented survival games, etc.

What is World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft as mentioned previously is a MMORPG created by the company Blizzard Entertainment in the year 2004. World of Warcraft is also commonly abbreviated as WoW. Once released World of Warcraft quickly grew to become one of the biggest, most popular, and most influential games in the MMORPG genre (if you play PC video games you've probably heard of WoW). In World of Warcraft you explore the vast open world of Azeroth, choosing between two main factions, the Alliance or the Horde, a variety of different classes and races, and so much more (professions, etc).

World of Warcraft is known for it's deep and expansive lore, which is heavily based on a fantasy theme, think dragons, magic, elves, orcs, the list goes on. One thing World of Warcraft is celebrated and praised for is it's social aspect. Players are encouraged to work together to complete dungeons, raids, various in-game quests, and so forth. If you're looking to meet new people and make new friends World of Warcraft is a great place to start.

My Dwarf Hunter Playthrough

Just a heads up, this isn't my first character on World of Warcraft. I actually started with a human warrior, which I got to level 13 before deleting and starting fresh. This is my fresh start, a dwarf hunter class. Dwarves from what I can tell are known for their good defensive stats. Their racial buff gives them bonuses to their defensive stats, so if you're looking to play a tank character I definitely recommend playing dwarf.

The reason I went the hunter class is because I like fighting from a distance. I want to attack my targets from long distance and try to kill them before they get close to me. I also want to when high enough level offer covering fire and support from the backlines in player-verse-player.

As soon as I started my dwarf I was thrown right into the fray. I spawned in the middle of a battle between dwarves and rockjaw invaders. I quickly killed a couple of the invaders who tried attacking me then proceeded to speak with a dwarf named Joren Ironstock. Said dwarf proceeded to give me a quest slaying rockjaw invaders. I had to kill 6, which was a relatively easy task considering the rockjaw invaders are all low level beginner enemies.

As expected I made quick work of the invaders. I killed 6 of them and proceeded to finish the quest, in which I was awarded 55 copper, a small amount of experience, and a beginner piece of armor that so happened to be 1 armor point better than what I was wearing.

Next I was given a quest killing a tougher enemy, but not tough at all if I'm being completely honest. I was tasked with killing 3 Rockjaw goons, which are essentially big Rockjaw invaders. They have more health and do a bit more damage but besides that there's nothing special about them. They're easy to kill, so that's exactly what I did. I proceeded to kill the 3 Rockjaw goons required to complete the quest.

After completing this quest I decided to take a break from the game.

First Impressions, worth $20 a month?

Short answer is yes if you have the extra money and no if you don't. From what I can tell so far World of Warcraft is a great MMORPG. It does a lot of things in the genre great and set the standard for MMORPGs but hasn't from what I can tell done anything exceptional to make it stand out or be worth $20 a month. There are other free or pay once MMORPGs that do a similar job to World of Warcraft.
