What Happened with Rage 2? - ImNutty

If you have ever played the original Rage game, released in late 2011, you would understand how unique and insane of a game it was at the time.

An intense first person shooter with breakneck vehicle combat, a vast wasteland of a world, and constant memorable characters and enemies makes Rage in my opinion, one of my favorite games of all time. I spent close to 50 hours playing and replaying the game, exploring new areas I could never find beforehand, and finding new ways to exploit the game.

When Rage 2 was announced in late 2018 and fully released in May of 2019, the graphics looked stunning, the once dead and gloomy apocalyptic world of the original Rage was replaced by colorful biomes in a world where things began to grow back from the disaster.

However that was only one of a few upsides.

Rage 2 nailed the FPS combat system from the first, it's fast paced, fun, and just as gory as the original we've so come to love. Even some of the super-abilities you gain throughout the game are pretty unique.

Sadly that's basically it.

The story line is almost nonexistent and feels very undercut. Yet you have to do all the side missions from each of 3 separate factions before unlocking the NEXT story mission. Something that should be considered optional since they're SIDE MISSIONS.

Even after completing all the REPETITIVE side missions, and you upgrade your weapons to their max, you still have TONS of side missions left to complete. They're an endless cycle of, travel here, kill stuff, get money, and rinse and repeat.

Compared to the original, the enemies are entirely forgettable and I would not hesitate to easily blow their heads off. Instead of various factions and enemies from the first, we're given 3 main factions, 2 of which are almost identical in every way.

All in all, I get the feeling like this is another game taken out of the oven far before it was “done”. On release, there were a few very obvious bugs which have been summarily squashed. But, the whole thing just screams, “F*ck it, just ship it”, publisher mentality. You looking for some absolutely mindless but fun gun play? Don't care much about WHO or WHAT or WHY the shooting is going on? Don't mind the same thing over & over? Then go ahead & give it a go.

But still, in my opinion, it's not nearly worth the $60 price tag. Maybe the upcoming free DLC packs will change this, but the core of the game feels so haphazardly slapped together, I highly doubt additional content can do much to fix it. Maybe wait until Steam dumps it in a sale.

Very nice review man. I was stunned to read that it cost 60$, seems a bit much after I've read your post.

We'll let them release a few DLCs to see if it will get better. Cheers!

Hopefully it does get better!
