Would you like to play the super secret copy of NES Golf which is hidden in your Nintendo Switch?

A few days ago, an Internet user and fan of Nintendo, which was called yellows8, published a strange discovery in SwitchBrew.org, a site dedicated to finding ways to hack the Nintendo Switch. According to this user, it is possible to find a mysterious game called Flog, hidden in each Switch console. This game, which turns out to be an emulated version of the game NES 1984 Golf, which has been updated with movement controls. An even greater mystery was to find a way to actually play the game, and it turns out that it is far from easy.

Why Golf? We must know a little history. Satoru Iwata was the fourth president and CEO of Nintendo, but he was also an excellent programmer, and in 1984 he created a data compression tool to compress an 18-hole golf game into an NES cartridge. Unfortunately, on July 11, 2015, Iwata died of health complications caused by a malignant tumor found in his bile duct. However, nobody knows how the NES golf game could be installed the Switch firmware, but accessing it reveals that it was almost definitely put by someone on Nintendo as a tribute to Iwata.

In addition, using this hidden game is not as easy as some people might think. It is not possible to enter this game by placing the Konami code, or any combination of button presses. However, testers in the GBA Temp and SwitchBrew have discovered, that for a person to be able to enter this game, the internal clock of the switch first has to match the date of Iwata's passing passing, on July 11. If you have ever connected your Internet switch, there is currently no way to access the golf game, since the internal clock of the console automatically synchronizes with the red time. But if your console has never been online, this internal clock can synchronize with what has been specified by the user in the configuration, which means that you can simply jump to the configuration of the switch and redial the clock until 11 July.

Do not think that everything will be easier after making the date change in the device. After making the date setting, you need to go back to the main switch menu, and separate each Joy-Con. You must have a controller in each hand and then you will need to play a very specific movement that Iwata had used in a Nintendo Direct presentation. You should put both arms down, and hold each Joy-Con pointing down and then raise your hands until the controllers are in front of your face, upright. If you've done each of these steps well, well, after holding that stance for a moment, the classic NES Golf game will automatically launch, as several videos posted online have shown.

However, many have failed to do this. The success rate for getting this and launching the game has been abysmal. As SwitchBrew.org points out, there are other switching criteria that must be met for this Easter egg to be revealed, and so far no one has been able to find out exactly what they are. Some expert players and testers have also been trying to find ways to completely reset their Switches connected to the Internet back to factory conditions, but doing so would involve dismantling the Nintendo Switch and removing backup batteries.

So you think this is not worth it?

Only a small group of Nintendo fanatics and some testers have managed to load the Golf, and so far no one has published a complete, unedited video about the steps necessary to achieve it. To make matters worse, the game does not seem to be completely finished, and actually playing a round with motion controls and the Joy-Cons switch has proven to be confusing. Some people think it's a funny Easter egg, but the time of a player or hacker will probably be better spent if you try to unlock all the secrets of Breath of the Wild instead.
