The Last of Us Playthrough [part 3]

in gaming •  7 years ago  (edited)

Part 3 of our Last of Us playthrough picks up immediately where we left off. Bill showed up just in the nick of time to rescue you and Ellie from the mechanic shop. The infected had all but surrounded you and the situation was dire. Armed with a Machete and a shotgun he cleared you a path and ushered you both to one of his safe houses. Things took a sour turn when he handcuffed Ellie to the wall and held you at gunpoint. He wanted to know if you were infected. Before he had a chance to check Ellie broke a pipe off the wall and started swinging. Bill backed off and you calmed him down but he wouldn’t forget this and he sure took to disliking Ellie. The feeling was most definitely mutual.

With Friends Like These

Bill demands to know what you’re doing here. Why you broke into his town and why you set off all his traps. You tell him you need a car and that he owes you. He laughs at you and says, even if I did, what I owe you isn’t worth that much. You look him square in the eyes and say yeah it is. He doesn’t argue. When he tells you he doesn’t have a car you respond but there is a car in town. He corrects you and tells you No, there are parts, parts for a car but they are on the other side of town. He can see you’re not going to take no for an answer. If we’re going to do this he says we need to get some tools from my other safe house.

As you head out he asks where Tess is. You don’t have the heart to tell him. You just tell him you’re on a simple drop off job. He laughs and asks what you’re delivering not this little brat here to which Ellie responds wryly with a haha fuck you too. Bill laughs out loud clearly he approves. Along the way you meet some infected in the street but their numbers are low and with Bill along for the trek you make short work of them. As you reach an old abandoned church he tells you this is the place. You open the hatch to the cellar and as you start down the stairs he snaps at Ellie and tells her not to touch anything.

No Amount of Preparation

Ellie asks for a gun and you tell her no, she says she can handle herself but you stand firm. She quips that she’ll just stand around and wait till you guys get her killed. Bill rolls his eyes and tells you this goes on record as the worst fucking job you’ve ever taken. You nod and say it’s up there. He asks how Tess could have ever gone along with this. It was her idea you tell him. Mid conversation he stops and yells across the room hey what did I tell you when we walked down the steps? Don’t touch! Ellie flips him he bird. Bill warns you that in this world having someone you have to take care of is only going to get you killed. He reminisces about a partner he had for awhile before he decided its better off on his own.

You ask Bill what the heck you’re doing here and what he’s planning with all the bombs and ammo. He tells you what he really needs is a battery. Apparently a military supply truck crashed into the old school a while back. Bill says the truck is built like a tank and the battery should still be in good condition. If you can get that battery he says he can get a car up and running. He tells you it’s going to be tough as the school is outside of his perimeter and the infected are everywhere. He tells you he had planned on getting the battery earlier but it seemed too dangerous with all of the infected in the area. But now fuck it Joel needs a car.

The Best Laid Plans

Before you leave the safe house Bill glares at Ellie and says swear to god if you took anything! She jumps right back and says I don’t need any of your shit trust me. As you exit the old church you walk by a pile of smouldering bodies. You tell Ellie to look away, that she shouldn’t have to see anything like this but she shrugs it off and says she’s seen worse. In the alley behind the church you run into some runners and a couple clickers. You and Bill are able to cut them down as you methodically move yard to yard and house to house.

It’s not long before you make it to the school. The area is a maze of broken down school buses, concrete barriers, and chain link fences. And the area is swarming with infected. You try to sneak by but they spot you. It’s useless fighting them all as there are just too many. Bill leads you to the back area of the school yard where the truck crashed. You are able to find a window to climb through before the mob surrounds you. Inside the infected are pounding at the door trying to get through. You and Ellie do your best to improvise a barricade while Bill goes for the battery. But the battery is gone. Someone took it. The infected are almost through the barricade so there’s no time to stand around.

The Only Way Out is Through

You escape through the school only to find more infected. You are able to sneak past most of them and kill the ones that get in your way. Eventually you make it to the gymnasium. You can see a safe exit route out a window from the top of the bleachers. Before you escape something smashes through a doorway. It’s bigger and meaner looking than anything you’ve seen thus far. Its skin is hardened by the virus almost like a shell. You toss a Molotov cocktail at it and burn it up while filling it full of buckshot. It takes a lot of ammo but you manage to bring it down. You tell Ellie it’s called a bloater and it’s just someone who has been infected for a real long time.

With the gym cleared you climb up the bleachers and out of the gym window. In the distance you can see a ladder leaning up against the school fence. It looks like the best way out of the yard. As you run for it the infected give chase. You barely make it up the ladder and knock it over before they can swarm you. After clearing the area you enter the nearby house. It’s safe and away from the infected. Inside you and Bill start arguing about what happened and what’s next. You almost come to blows when Bill stops. Right behind you a body hangs dead by its neck. Bill tells you it’s his old partner. He can see bite marks and realizes he committed suicide so he wouldn’t turn. He tries to act as if he doesn’t care but you can tell it’s effected him.

The Only Sure Thing About Luck is it Will Change

Ellie calls out from the garage. It turns out Bill’s partner is the one who took the battery. There is a truck in the garage and it’s ready to go. Bill checks it out and says the battery is dead but the fuel cells are still good. You ask him what that means. He tells you all you need to do is push start it and it should run. Ellie says she knows how to pop a clutch and can drive the truck if you both push. Bill wants to give her shit just because but decides against it. You push the truck out onto the street and Ellie tries to jump start it but it doesn’t work. There’s a hill just ahead and you figure that’s the best chance. As you start pushing the infected in the area begin to notice you.

It seems like every few feet of pushing you have to pause and take down one more infected. For now they’re not swarming but it won’t be long. You finally get the truck to the hill and push it over the top. It careens down the hill and Ellie manages to turn the engine over. The truck is running and just in time. A swarm of infected have heard the racket and are rushing towards you. You and Bill jump into the back of the truck and Ellie speeds off. A few miles up the road Bill tells you this is his stop. He tells you Ellie almost got you both killed. You come to her defense and say yeah but she really held her own back there. Bill just laughs. He tells you that you’re even and to get the fuck out of his town.

On the Open Road

You take over driving and Ellie climbs into the back seat. You catch her reading a comic she stole from Bill’s place. At first you’re a little pissed but then you just smile and ask her what else she got. She hands you a cassette tape, country music, something to soothe your weary mind. You hear her laugh and shes says guess your friend is going to miss this as she pulls a nudie magazine form her backpack. She unfolds the centerfold and gasps how could he even walk around with that thing. You try to grab it from her but she says hold on I want to see what all the fuss is about. When she asks why the pages are all stuck together you’re at a loss for words. She laughs and says I’m just fucking with you as she tosses it out the window.

Very nice post, thanks for sharing

A lot of hard work put into this one mang, when do you have time to play the game?

That's certainly the problem. Between work and writing articles my gaming time has dwindled :( Took me a week to beat this game again.. most of it was messing around with editing video clips and writing the posts.. still quite a few left to go and now a new game just came out too.

New game?

Middle Earth: Shadow of War :)

not much of a gamer but you make me want to join the gaming community especially the way you have detailed everything, this is great work , introduction to gaming 101. you should create a gaming account that teaches newbies gaming or a niche community of gamers within steemit

Wow thanks. But ya I'm pretty terrible at most games so not sure I'd be a good candidate for teaching people how to game.. besides neighbors probably think I'm murdering people when I hit a losing streak!
