Delays and Dreams

Okay, I just have to fess up. I'm behind on everything. I was hoping to get Genship Exiles out on December 24th, but it's looking like we're a while away.

Segira just needs that adventure finished, but I also want to go through and expand the setting a little to make it more GM-friendly as a jumping off point for storytelling. It's really basic right now and it's less than the rest of the book in terms of quality. I'm aiming for the three-day weekend coming up, but I have relatives in town.

Hwaet needs a lot of work just to finish. The Resistance toolkit is awesome, but I'm really getting my butt kicked by the advances. I was hoping to have a 7-day turnaround when I started Hwaet, but it's going to be longer.

Then we get to Genship Exiles. I'm cautiously optimistic with regards to still getting it done near its deadline, but each day that passes makes me a little more anxious. I was actually considering cancelling Hwaet, but I'm pretty far in love with the concept of Hwaet now and I'm not willing to do that.

My day job is partially to blame here. I've been under a lot of stress on account of it, and I've had a lot of people second-guessing my decisions and a lot of people being really awesome and supportive. Issues that I thought would not be ongoing have just kept expanding on and on, so we'll see how that plays out.

I've also been having weird dreams lately, which I think is not entirely coincidental given the fact that I've been reading Jung. A couple nights ago I had a dream in which two large black-and-yellow spiders were crawling along my arm (I'm not a bug person, so this is not an ideal situation for me). I had the clear knowledge that if I ate them, I would be immune to their venom and become strong. Instead, I panicked, ran, and the spiders grew wings and pursued me. I don't think that it's entirely unfounded to state that the meaning of the dream is that I have to set foot into the heroic unknown, but simple interpretations don't necessarily lead to good outcomes.

It's also worth noting that any dream interpretation still just relies on the intrapsychic dynamics of the conscious and subconscious, so making big decisions based on dreams is not necessarily a good idea.

The whole point in bringing this up is that creating situations that have symbolic significance like dreams often have is one of the goals of Hwaet. Whether or not it will accomplish that is partially up to my abilities as a designer, and may even be an impossible goal.
