Build an empire to stand the test of time through the ages is what this series is all about. One of the longest lasting and always improving 4X strategy gaming series is something every gamer must try out at least once, if you never played any Civilization game you are missing out a lot. It is not just a pass time, playing Civ games you will learn a lot about history of our civilization, you will learn to strategize and weigh your options, analyze the situation and come on top. In part 2 I will talk about new Civ games, these are the ones you should check out!
Civilization 4
Fourth game in the series was released by Firaxis Games in 2005. Nothing else can be said about this game than epic. Improved in almost every area Civilization 4 is a game you can spend many months on. Players can chose between 18 civilizations each with their own special units and buildings. Combat is improved in Civ 4 and your units can level up. Different units like siege weapons move slowly and have a good range while some others like swordsman can only attack in melee. One of the the most fun situations in Civ games is when your archers suddenly carry rifles and your enemy still uses bows, good time to attack and win via domination victory. Improved graphics and many features like the Great Person that can be generated to help you advance in many areas as well as religion can help you achieve victory in this great Turn Based Strategy game.
Civilization 5
Civilization 5 was released in 2010 and it is one of my favorite Civ games. Outstanding graphics improvements and many other quality of life improvements are present in this one. I would say that Civ 5 and it's expansions is the most feature rich Civilization game up to date. With all the expansions we have included features such as international trade routes, great works, tourism, a world congress, religion, espionage, enhanced naval combat, improved AI, many more extra nations. This list can go on and on and any player who played the game will know what I'm talking about. Independent City States can be annexed, razed, or transformed into a puppet states. Another change to the game is the switch from the square grid from the world map to the hexagonal grid .
Civilization 6
Last game in the series was released in 2016 and it is not more of the same, of course game had the same gameplay concept like any other Civilization game, but this game tried a new approach from standardized formula. Areas around your cities can now be specially tailored to your needs, for example in previous installments you could build only specialized grid improvements around your city, new change is that your workers can build an encampment inside your city zone and any potential attackers would first need to clear the encampment before they take the city. The workers can also build science, religion, production or food improvements around your cities. Wonders now must be placed on grids of your choice while in previous games wonders would be placed randomly. All that allows you to customize your city as you see fit. Graphics and music in Civilization 6 are done masterfully and it truly is a joy to play this game.
Im still knee-deep in part 5 :D
So enough time to wait until 6 has all the DLCs out and put them into one box for half the price.
Before the DLC mania I bought full price and the one or two expansions, so 100€ per game.
With that f*** DLC spam I now wait and pay max. 30€ for everything. Brought it on yourself, publishers.

I'm trying to follow the same path as you, it gets too expensive to own every game, expansion and DLC right at launch. Buying on discounts is the best choice, that is if you can make it that far without buying.

Good choice. There are so many great games to choose from that I hardly buy a game during its first week anymore. And will never pay more than $50 either!
