It's been around five years since the last Tekken-Tekken Tag Tournament-was released for the console. Since then, many fighting game fans, especially Tekken fans, are looking forward to the latest title of this series. Well, after that long wait, now the fans are treated to Tekken 7. This game itself new release in June this year for the console and PC. What does the game look like?.
PROLOG
Like the name that he usung, Tekken 7 is a direct sequel of Tekken 6 from the side of the story. The focus of the story still revolves around the never ending Mishima family conflict, something that also inspires us to write the story above. At Tekken 6 earlier, Jin Kazama who now heads the family company - Mishima Zaibatsu finally adventures to find and fight Azazel, a creature that is allegedly a source of demonic power flowing within the Mishima family itself. Jin managed to win, but his own fate is not clear. With the empty leadership after Jin's departure, Heihachi Mishima who was allegedly killed in Tekken 5 turned "back to life". Heihachi went straight to Mishima Zaibatsu and tried to seize the reins of leadership there, while promising to find Jin Kazama himself. Heihachi himself ambitious to open the identity of Kazuya to the public, which incidentally now lead another powerful company - G-Corporation. Because of the Jin's "bad" behavior in the past and tarnished the name of Mishima Zaibatsu himself, the G-Corporation opposing every action is seen as an organization walking the truth. Something that Heihachi does not like.
The perspective of the story itself is taken from the story of a journalist trying to find the truth of what really happened with the war that was raging in the world. The war which also claimed the lives of his wife and son whom he loved from him, made him cultivate a deep sense of resentment for Mishima Zaibatsu and Jin Kazama who dreamed of him some time ago. The journalist's journey finally unfolds the mystery more clearly, from who Kazuya is, the bloodline of The Devil in the Mishima family, to the existence of Heihachi's wicked wife - Kazumi. More cool? Bandai Namco also managed to include the "guest" character of Street Fighter - Akuma as not just a cameo, but also has a super important role in the Tekken 7 story itself. Tekken 7 has the same story. No change since the first Tekken: father-son story trying to kill each other. Although in Tekken 7 there is some additional information about why they can kill each other, but it still makes Story Mode in Tekken 7 boring. Plus, Story Mode only focus on Heihachi and Kazuya. So, the characters you can play in Story Mode are very limited to Heihachi, Kazuya, and a handful of other characters.
In addition to the lack of stories and characters that can be played in Story Mode, this one mode is frankly frustrating because the battle is unreasonable - in a very difficult sense. Even when you're setting up the difficulty to the lowest level or assisted with a combo assist, you'll definitely have trouble finishing Story Mode. In addition, if you lose a battle that takes two rounds, you have to repeat the fight from the beginning-it's totally absurd. Story Mode is arguably one of the biggest weaknesses in Tekken 7. Even so, this game has a lot of advantages that make it worth mentioning as the best fighting game 2017 so far.
Graphic
The flexibility of Unreal Engine 4 to adapt to the diverse visual approach of developers with their unique flavors is indeed worthy of thumbs up. Not just a matter of realism alone, it can actually be used to mix visuals in a form you've never predicted before. The decision to use the new generation engine for Tekken 7 is a decision that we think is worthy of thumbs up. For a standard game released for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and of course - PC, it looks stunning. We are not just talking about the visual details for the characters, but the smoothness of the attack animation, the effects of the particles that become the identity, to the design of each stage. You are familiar with Tekken as a franchise will likely feel and enjoy the significant visual differences. Details of these characters feel better, than just the muscle and pulse line in the body to the material they wear, feels realistic. Bandai Namco also claims that they created stages with dynamic weather effects, though we did, as far as, still see them as scripted stages. One of the battlefields, for example, always contains the rain conditions when entering the second round, regardless of the results he showed. More cool? The effects of water that fall into the body of the characters and their clothing, now look better in this seventh series.
Although retaining some of the roster may no longer be foreign to you, not a few who experienced significant design changes. Produce new and old visual mix in the same space. Eddy Gordo still looks like Eddy Gordo you know from the previous series, while Yoshimitsu is now coming up with a visual that is even already in the "hard to understand" stage or Hwoarang who now has a blindfold with a look that is more fierce and assertive. From the design side of each character, Tekken 7 manages to present something familiar, but also new at the same time. Although some characters have to be acknowledged not much different, like Panda, Kuma, or Bryan who now only looks better muscle. For presentation problems, Tekken 7 really looks stunning through the implementation of Unreal Engine 4 that deserves thumbs up. The details of the characters he offers may not be something you pay attention to, but from the scale of the level design you will already be able to feel the atmosphere of the fight that is now not only more spoil the eye, but also looks more dramatic.
Gameplay Tekken 7
Gameplay from Tekken 7 can be fairly simple. Each button represents every body part of the character, and you can accidentally do a combo by pressing randomly. Not a minus thing, this is a good thing because Tekken 7 can be played by many people-even by players who are not used to playing fighting games though. Easy gameplay also does not mean the game will be easy because fighting in this game runs like a fight in the real world-more realistic. There are times when you have to go near the enemy or back away from the enemy. There are times when you have to move the line in an arena that has a three-dimensional environment to dodge or trick enemies. In essence, in addition to compete quickly in pressing the button, you also have to shoot cleverly to approach or avoid the opponent's attack.
You are familiar with the Tekken franchise so far will get a sensation that is not much different. In fact, some combos that you can execute in older series Tekken though, you can still use here. True, even for the "junk" combination of Eddy Gordo's two leg knobs that ticked and turned off, at the same time. As for you who are not too familiar, Tekken is a series of fighting games that embed a member of the foot or hand into a single button. The main identity is a game that combines these keys appropriately, minimally buttons are mostly held, and damage is always significant. The intensity of the fight comes from the fact that once you make the defense open and attacked, the damage you receive is always significant. So what you know and know about Tekken series can still be implemented in this seventh series, although there are some new things that deserve to be talked about. From something "trivial" for example, like the presence of Assist button pinned Bandai Namco in Story Mode - which became the most important content here. As if to understand that not all Tekken 7 players will end up being loyal fans of the fighting genre and may find it difficult to subdue the challenges, even at the easy level, they embed the Assist button so that gamers can access a combination attack by simply pressing a Trigger + one button . Proven, with the level of difficulty that is quite challenging, the presence of such a system is very helpful to those who are just curious about the existing story.
Fitur
The new feature introduced in Tekken 7 is Rage Arts. Rage Arts is a feature that allows you to launch attacks when your health is running low. Obviously, this can be a feature for comeback when you are pressed. Rage Arts itself is relatively easy to execute, depending on the characters being played. But you can set it so that Rage Arts can be used easily through control settings. Rage Arts itself, although cool and exciting, but can be a plus and minus for Tekken 7-because on one side can be used for comeback, but on the other hand feels a bit cheat. In addition to Rage Arts, slow motion features also add to the battle clash. This feature will appear when you and your opponents hit each other in critical moments (usually when the last blow is launched). Surely this gives a dramatic effect when playing. You will feel your own satisfaction when you beat your opponent when the slow motion effect takes place.
Character
Sometimes, the standard character model alone is not enough. Sometimes, especially when playing online, you'll expect that the favorite characters you use do represent the uniqueness you want to include with them. Interestingly, like the appeal that they offer in the previous series, Tekken 7 managed to make this system produce a pleasant and "not too serious" impression of it. Why? Because you can modify almost every set of outfits with the combination as bad, crazy, and as beautiful as you want. Almost most of the available items are indeed implemented for almost any character, such as hats, goggles, or items for the back for example. Without any limitations and instead you are driven to the process of creations of senseless and crazy characters, there is never a limit on what you can or can not wear. Some characters are also reinforced with special cosmetic items such as clothing and pants for the cosmetic side that is more serious or just strengthen the sensation of nostalgia, given that not infrequently the costumes are also derived from their old costumes. Believe it or not, this kind of system turns out to be quite an extra motivation to continue playing Tekken, especially if you've finished the existing story mode.
Fortunately, Bandai Namco presents a special mode to facilitate it. You are not happy to play online can taste a mode called Treasure Battle offered offline. The core of this mode itself is very simple - that you have to fight from one battle to another fight with one goal, collect money and collect the treasure chests that are there. As can be predicted, you will not be able to access all the chests that contain these cosmetic items. Therefore, you must win the battle and unlock all the RNG-based crates to "further enhance" your character. Each battle in Treasure Battle will also allow you to collect in-game currency to buy all of them. Not infrequently, the combination of cosmetic items that you produce ends up inviting laughter, especially if you are dealing with AI design results in Treasure Battle or online. Or maybe, your crazy creativity might give birth to this one absurd design. We had time to mix the character from Middle East - Shaheen with "standard" clothes like Tarawih's new home while trying to save the world. We also met with Akuma's classmates who wore only panties with tuna on the back, or Jin characters whose costumes unfortunately, countless as canons. Or when we fight Heihachi with an angel suit that instead dies when lost, will float to heaven once defeated. At least this system makes Tekken 7 not too "serious".
Conclusion
Tekken 7 is a fighting game series that manages to do two things at one time - capturing the appeal of the past and putting something new and refreshing on it. As one of the gamers who have tasted its appeal since the Playstation 1 era, you can master this game with ease, but also it provides the space to deepen and make it a seriously competitive game for you personally. The decision to strengthen the side of the story by including Akuma and designing it in a cinematic format is a very good decision. Especially everything is done with a Unreal Engine 4 base that fascinates and spoil the eye. It will fulfill what you expect from a new Tekken series, even for matters of cosmetic madness though. However, it does not mean Tekken 7 can be spelled as a perfect "fighting" game. We ourselves have several complaints, especially from the existing presentation. First, the decision to get every character to speak in their own "mother tongue" in Story Mode, but to understand each other, is an absurd decision in our eyes. Simplify it to be all the same language, in our opinion more rational. The policy of making a mode story outside the Mishima family for each character is now concluded from just one battle, rather than extending in Arcade Mode like the old series is also questionable. Other things? Most ranged from non-memorable music or battles with difficulty levels that are very difficult to tolerate. We also regret not the return of some iconic old characters here.
However, despite these shortcomings, Tekken 7 still culminates as a Tekken series that is too dear to miss. You who come to enjoy the competitive atmosphere, or just continue the story, or just want to find a simple "fighting game" where you just want to have fun and enjoy the excitement, or even just enjoy the visuals you will feel that the investment you are hosting in Bandai Namco's matching fighting game is sweetly paid. Tekken 7 overall is a very satisfying fighting game. Great graphics are able to present an exciting, realistic, and dramatic fight scene. There is a lack in Story Mode, but this game has more advantages that can exceed that shortfall. In a way, Tekken 7 is the best fighting game of 2017 so far.
