In addition, Niantic has said that the duration of the increased spawns will be from Saturday December 18 thru Sunday, December 19th. While they made bo mentions of the increased rate of shinies spawning, it is probably certain that the chance of it happening be high given the expectations of the community. They also mentioned that the exclusive moves available for their previous Community Day Events will also be available when evolving the Pokemons to there last form.
One slight difference given the extended time for the event is that the bonuses that will be unlocked will only be for six hours on both days from 11am to 5pm local times. These bonuses include double catch XP, double catch Stardust and half hatch distance for eggs. There was also no mention of increased lures but would not be surprised if they last for the duration of the bonuses only.
I think this is a great event to give one last opportunity for players who previously missed an event to get a chance at some extra Pokemon candy and some shinies to trade. I look forward to having a shiny weekend!
