ASUS confirms the reports on Intel and its stock problems. With the drawbacks generated by the 10nm, Intel is saturating the manufacturing at 14nm. This means that there will be a shortage of processors on a global scale. And that will raise the prices.
ASUS confirms the reports on Intel and its stock problems.
Intel Coffee Lake chips (Core 8000 series) are currently suffering from a price increase, some products have even risen from 40 to 60%, in general, for the final product sold in stores, this means an increase of price between 15 and 25%. The news about this continues to accumulate and is now confirmed by the ASUS CEO:
In statements by Jerry Shen:
Asustek Computer has seen its shipments to the DIY sector and related motherboards affected by the supply strategy of Intel for CPUs, with the perspective that the shortage of CPUs, in particular desktop PCs, continue in the second quarter of 2019.
The continued shortage of CPU supply, the escalation of commercial disputes between the US. and China and increased competition in the laptop segment in Europe have reduced the "operational visibility" of Asustek for the fourth quarter of 2018 to the lowest level of 20%, compared to more than 50% of previous years said Shen. Although Intel has been committed to addressing supply issues since September and has continued to invest to increase production of its 10 nm process, the tight CPU supplies have not been resolved, as the US chip maker has given priority to the production of high-end Xeon and Core series CPUs, instead of CPUs for basic-range models or other consumer models, said Shen, the company's CEO.
The price rise is not good news, fortunately AMD is not having a similar problem, so it may be an option if prices of Intel chips rise too much in the coming months.
