Guild Wars 2 - Intense reset day

in gaming •  3 years ago

Yesterday was friday, which in Guild Wars 2 means reset day!

Reset day is when the matchups for World vs World (vs World) get reset. At 8 in the evening, WvW servers go down and a couple of minutes later, all servers start with 0 points and get pitted against other servers.

Well, Not always other servers, it depends on everyone's scores during last matchup and I don't really know the exact rules of what makes a matchup. I do know our blue enemies have stayed the same this week.

On reset day, if you have a commander running a squad during the day, you'll basically just be capping loads of points. Atleast in my experience. Gone are the days of caring whether they steal your towers or keeps. It doesn't matter, reset is in a few hours anyway!

So yesterday morning and afternoon, there was an easy capping squad where I could basically just gather a lot of WvW experience and get some extra Dragon coffers from the event reward track. Things moved quite fast, so I struggled to keep up. Especially while poking around on Hive at the same time.

Multi tasking isn't healthy!

Early in the evening, before reset, there was a different commander who was on Discord with his squad. This guy had always seemed very enthousiastic to me in the map chats, but I never heard him speak before. While on Discord, I could finally match his chat behaviour with his voice. It was a child-like enthousiasm! I don't think I've ever followed a commander that young, but he was doing a great job picking targets and commanding his squad. What a nice thing for his resumé later: "Commanded a band of PUGs to assault and capture enemy keeps". Shows great leadership qualities! ...To the right kinda boss...

His run was even more intense. Dragging us all over the map to assault the bigger targets. We only ran into resistance once, after which I stepped out for 15 minutes, waiting for the reset to begin and getting us some fresh mint tea before the next chaotic hours.

After reset, I joined the commander on our Home Borderland. He quickly had to make room for another one though, because there were so many people on the map, the battles so intense, his internet couldn't take it.

We got a new commander and found plenty of fights. In the beginning, most fights were in our main keep and they were three-ways. Both the red and blue enemy squads (we're green this week) were camping out in our keep, waiting for big battles. And so were we.

I love those huge battles, although they do sometimes give plenty of lag.

Oh right, and the WvW event from last week is over. Aside from earning extra WXP, the event also had a twist: no downed state. Normally in GW2, when you lose all of your health, you go into a downed state where you can still get resurrected by your teammates, or by killing another player/NPC (or by very slowly healing yourself if you don't get attacked). During last week's event, that wasn't the case, so dying went quite quickly. Sometimes the downed state can be an annoyance in WvW. You take a long time to die completely so you can respawn, or you die at the wrong time, resurrecting enemy downed players.

Anyway, lots of fun in the keep last night! That's the blue squad on the left and the red squad up on the walls.

At some point, we switched commanders again and the third one was the best of the evening. He ran a tight group with plenty of heals in the heat of the battle and we managed to win quite a few fights.

This reset day was an intense day for me and I'll admit I was quite tired by the end of it. I probably should have taken some more breaks inbetween, but you know how it is, hard to take a break when things are going so well!

I'll try to take it easy today. Will make sure to finish my event daily and maybe do some WvW aswell. The big battles are mostly in the evening anyway, so it should be a little less chaotic during the day.

It's fun to be back in Guild Wars 2!
