This is another video I made some time ago with the intention of provoking discussion on video game violence and censorship. It never did prompt the discussions I was hoping to have, so perhaps that can happen here! I'm mostly playing devil's advocate, as I don't oppose even the most wanton and gratuitous violence-filled games such as Hatred.
Sometimes games like Soldier of Fortune can be an outlet for releasing anger or tension. Just because a game portrays realistic violence or gore, doesn't mean it is "gore porn" or any sort of conditioning for sadists. Despite the advances in technology over time, however, we don't often see many AAA games that take advantage to depict visceral violence more realistically.
Perhaps there's some control factors in place and yes, I'm well aware of games like Dead Space - I even comment in it in the video above if you didn't make it all the way through. We don't see too many "Columbine shooters played Doom" stories as much these days - but is that because games have become softer or because more people play games than in the past?
