Elex review!

Heya folks. Yesterday I was able to get my hands on a fairly recent rpg named elex by the developers that brought you Risen and Gothic. So u thought I'd give my impressions on the game and what I liked and disliked about it.

Elex is a sci-fi rpg which takes place in a world where multiple factions are vying for control of a dangerous area (sound familiar?). Basically it's a Gothic or Risen storyline but sci-fi this time.

The world is fairly beautiful, but not for 2017 standards. It simply feels like a 2012 title in regards to graphic quality. That doesn't mean that it's bad, but just not great. I've seen much better.

In regards to combat here is where things fall apart, it's clunky and buggy, to the point if frustration with the combat. It's based around some sort of stamina system but doesn't really tell you exactly how or why it works the way it does. So most of the time you swing until it tells you you can't, which is usually really fast.

Movement is also fairly bad. Before playing I had no idea who the developer was, but upon playing I guessed it was the Gothic developers and I was correct. If you've played either risen or Gothic, you'll know that combat and movement is just rough.

The world is rather interesting, lots of exploration, which is nice. But a lack of direction means it's easy to lose track of where and what you should be doing.

The jetpack was a nice feature but honestly I felt like it didn't matter much. Movement was so clunky that using the pack didn't feel as fun like in other games.

And on that same note, the game isn't easy. Creatures have no levels, so there is no way to tell if something is too hard to beat or not. Because I suck at games, this meant I died, a lot.

Personally after playing with the game for a few hours, I decided it wasn't for me. I personally like a fluid combat system and the combat in Elex was simply a chore.

If you've played Risen or Gothic, you'll know what to expect. If you've enjoyed those games, then Elex is definitely for you. If you didn't, pass this game.
