My honest review of Fishing Planet, is a free game worth it?

FishingPlanet_20180425111753.jpgSo I, growing up and spending 90% of my summers on Lake Erie for 17 years, am a fisher. We caught Walleye, Yellow Perch, Sheepshead, (I collected their heads for the "lucky stones" hidden right behind their eyes) Catfish, Bass, Bluegill and Sunfish.
After I moved to North Carolina, I lost my fishing hobby as the nearby lake has a harmful amount of mercury in its fish so I turned to my PlayStation 4 to give me the satisfaction of reeling in a fish once again.

Now starting out, its a free game. I was not expecting it to be good. It doesn't even have a colorful or catchy image, just the words Fishing Planet... but when I tell you this game is beautiful, its BEAUTIFUL. I will be very disappointed if a VR version isn't released.

You start out with simple controls. There is a map and everything you need to know about that location, weather forecasts, dish species, license information, and your current trip details.
So you have your map, I normally go to Lone Star Lake in Texas as its free to fish there and I waste a lot of money on equipment because I don't really know what i'm buying, but with your map of either the U.S. or the map of the lake or river you are fishing in, you have access to your inventory, the shop, and events. Before you go fishing, make sure your items are in your backpack. If they are in your home inventory, you wont have it with you when you leave. Even if its equipped. The store is also best accessed from the main screen as you can buy anything there within your level, the individual store sights have different items, so even though i'm a level 14 in Lone Star Lake, the shop only sells low level items for beginners. There are tournaments and competitions to in the events tab.
Another great thing I absolutely love about this game, IT'S ONLINE!
Now you might be thinking, "Oh great, I have to sit and wait for the best fishing time while online." Wrong! You can fast forward time and even skip to the next day and everyone else in your session stays where they are! You could be fishing for 3 days and you friend in the same session just finished half of the first day.
This game tops Rapala by a long shot!

Now everything sounds great, so what are the bad things? Well one thing I don't like is its a little too realistic. You have to have all your equipment line up to each other. Casting poll, casting rod, certain hooks to go with certain lures or baits... Its complicated just getting into it and I have spent thousands of dollars on equipment I never used and just sold back for half the price, but if you want to learn how to fish and don't have a place near you to go in person, I recommend this game! Solid 9/10 for my rating!
Another cool thing I would like to add is you can catch weeds! Its a little embarrassing when you are in a session as it broadcasts it to everyone, but its still pretty cool.

My favorite thing to do is lay back in bed, with a bag of chips or cookies beside me while listening to true scary stories on YouTube. I can sit and fish all day if my husband lets me.
If you would like to join me during my fishing times please do! Its always fun to game with friends. My PSN is RUMER88 and my name in Fishing Planet is rumer88 as well.
I hope you check out the game and enjoy it. Have a great day everyone and thanks for reading!

There are a few more pictures of just couple more fish to see.
