Rendering Help Needed

in gaming •  7 years ago

The rendering project that @gmuxx and I posted about has hit a snag. There's a gremlin in his system we can't debug. Fortunately, that gremlin hasn't terrorized other people who are trying to help us get this done. But we're down a high-output renderer now because of it, and time's a-tickin'.

I'm appealing to the greater Steemit community to see if anyone out there has a high-end gaming machine that they could put to work on this. The ideal specs for rendering IRay at this level would be dual 1080s or dual Titans. However, I have a single 1050 and it will render. . .but one frame takes almost an hour and a half. There are 500 frames in this project.

Things to know:

  1. This could fry an underpowered system. It nearly killed my regular laptop when I assumed I could use both machines for this project. Newp. There was smoke. Literally. I'm not sure what I cooked in there, but after I let my faithful little Toshiba cool off and I rebooted, it seems to run fine. . .somehow. I urge you to not risk it.

  2. This will tie up your computer. If you change the settings to GPU only, you will have some ability to use your machine while rendering is done. But just count on it being down for the count until the rendering is complete or cancelled.

  3. You have to download DAZ, have AniMate2 working with it, you'll have to get textures from me, as well as several files of custom content. And, since I am good at some things (like creating animation) and horrible at others (like straight-up tech,) you'll need some ability to figure out what to do with all of them when you get them.

One day I will own a beast of a rendering machine and will be able to design and animate photorealistic gifs for others on the Steemit platform. Until that day comes--which will be a while, seeing as how NVIDIA's new Titan Xp cards are $1200 each--I'll muddle through as best I can and pray for Steem to hit the moon.

Let me know if you can help. Thank you!

Be wary, lest the uncanny valley fry your brains... ;)

@creatr

No kidding!!!!

Sorry @rhondak, I've been totally out for the count the last few days.
I'm rendering the first few frames for you right now, will get them to you today (a frame takes me about 45-50 minutes with an i7 6700k and 1060)

I am all the way to 110 now. So I would need frames 111 through 120 next. I hope you haven’t gotten too far with the first ones!

If you were using Blender (or could fbx everything to Blender) I would recommend throwing it at BURP.

Blender is not compatible with IRay. The materials are IRay-specific.

I haven't even looked into that, that could definitely be a problem! XD

Hopefully you'll make enough steem to afford those dual Titans, I've been eyeing them off too. Hope there's enough people on here that can help get the thing rendered!

We've had some offers, yes! I'm so happy. :-) And ooooh, those Titans. sigh Would I classify that as a want or a need? I'm leaning toward need. LOL Puts it higher on the priority list.

If the art keeps you sane or is how you make money then definitely a need. Definitely ;D

See? Great minds. :-)

I can't believe you only used 1050 :0
:)

I know, right? Me and my broke self not able to afford a big desktop machine with real horsepower. I do love my little ROG STRIX, though. It works for everything else. This is just. . .just. . .well, it's IRay. Beautiful result, bitch to achieve.
